Guy Ritchie’s New Mystery Thriller Gets Season 2 First Look & Return Update

Guy Ritchie began his modern Sherlock Holmes series in 2009 with films starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. Although a third film hasn’t been made yet, Ritchie revisited the world with a separate, earlier-set story.

The mystery series launched on Prime Video on March 4th and quickly became a popular streaming success, earning praise from viewers and critics alike. After a strong debut in April, good news for fans: Season 2 of Young Sherlock is already in the works.

Young Sherlock Season 2 Is Already in Production

He announced on social media that filming for Season 2 began in late May. He shared a photo of the clapperboard on May 25th, confirming they had already started with Episode 2.

The creator announced the start of Season 2 of ‘Young Sherlock’ on social media, excitedly declaring, “The game is on!”

Season 2 will see a change in directors. While Guy Ritchie directed the first two episodes of Season 1, Colm McCarthy (known for his work on Sherlock and Peaky Blinders) will direct the second episode this season. Mark Patten is also returning as the director of photography. Guy Ritchie will direct some episodes in the new season, but it’s still to be decided which ones.

Season 2 began filming in Palermo, Italy. The first season was primarily shot in Spain and the UK, with production lasting from July 2024 to late February 2025.

Even Walton Goggins, who stars in Fallout, expressed his enthusiasm for Season 2, commenting, “Can’t Waitttt!”

In the days that followed, the creator shared initial glimpses of the main characters. This included a black-and-white photo of Dónal Finn as James Moriarty, disguised as a priest, alongside Hero Fiennes Tiffin in a dark suit. The next day, the creator announced the return of a younger Sherlock Holmes, posting a photo of Fiennes Tiffin once again in his characteristic clothing.

What to Expect From Young Sherlock Season 2?

The first season featured younger versions of the characters we’ve seen before. While working at Oxford University, Sherlock met Moriarty, who at the time was still naive, and they quickly became friends. But by the season’s end, Moriarty had already begun to show signs of a darker side.

The season ends with Sherlock embarking on a new case, surprisingly joined by Moriarty. Despite a change in Moriarty’s motives, the pair continue to solve mysteries together.

The show was a massive success from the start, shattering previous records even before its first episode aired and attracting a remarkable number of viewers in its initial week. It quickly reached 45 million viewers within the first month and established itself as a cultural phenomenon.

As a movie fan, I always check Rotten Tomatoes, and this film did really well! Critics gave it an 84% fresh rating based on 49 reviews, and audiences pretty much agreed, giving it an 83% score. It seems like most people who saw it really enjoyed it!

You can now watch Season 1 of Young Sherlock on Prime Video. While there’s no confirmed date yet, Season 2 is expected to arrive around 2027.
