It’s rare for a TV show to become so popular that it launches multiple spinoffs in just a few years. With so many streaming options available today, keeping viewers engaged with any new show is a challenge. Most shows struggle to even finish their first season, let alone deliver a complete story. A spinoff only becomes possible when a show really resonates with audiences and builds a loyal following. But even then, success isn’t guaranteed – many spinoffs don’t live up to the original series.

It’s unusual for a popular TV show to launch a successful spin-off, let alone an entire collection of them. But that’s exactly what happened with the crime drama Power. The original series, which premiered in 2014, ran for six seasons and quickly spawned multiple spin-offs. Power Book II: Ghost arrived in 2020, followed by Power Book III: Raising Kanan in 2021, and Power Book IV: Force in 2022 – and the franchise continues to expand.

The original Power series was just so good, it’s still one of their most popular shows ever – seriously, it has an 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and viewers. But what’s even cooler is that every single spinoff they’ve done has been a hit, sometimes even bigger than the last! That’s why they’re already planning even more shows to add to the franchise in the next few years. Trust me, if you haven’t jumped on the Power train yet, you’re missing out on something special.

The Different Power Universe Shows Explained

Created by Courtney A. Kemp and 50 Cent, the original Power series centers around James St. Patrick, known as “Ghost” (played by Omari Hardwick), a powerful drug dealer trying to escape his criminal life. He needs to build enough wealth to start over, stay out of trouble with the law, and fix his complicated family relationships. The show aired from 2014 to 2020, totaling 63 episodes. Before the original series ended, the network Starz approved a spin-off show, and announced two more within a year, launching what’s now known as the Power Universe.

Power Book II: Ghost continues the story of the original Power series, focusing on James St. Patrick’s son, Tariq (played by Michael Rainey Jr.). Like his father, Tariq becomes involved in the dangerous world of drug trafficking. Despite wanting a different life, he finds himself struggling to manage a criminal enterprise while also trying to keep his family safe. The show aired for four seasons from 2020 to 2024.

The show Power Book III: Raising Kanan began in 2021 and will end with its fifth season in June 2026. As a prequel to Power, it tells the story of Kanan Stark (played by Mekai Curtis) and how he evolved from a friend and mentor to James into the villain fans know from the original series.

The series Power Book IV: Force premiered in 2022 and concluded with its third and final season in January 2026. As another spin-off of Power, it centers on Tommy Egan (played by Joseph Sikora), James’ close friend and business associate, as he relocates his drug business from New York City to Chicago.
