Alexa Demie is not going anywhere.

Alexa Demie, known for her role as Maddy Perez in HBO’s Euphoria, is finishing up with the show after the finale on May 31st. However, she’s clarified that she isn’t retiring from acting altogether. Staying true to her personality, she hasn’t revealed what she plans to do next.

I was really touched by what she shared with The Hollywood Reporter recently. She said she definitely has ambitions and things she’s working towards, but she’s made a conscious decision to keep those personal goals private, and I completely respect that. It feels really authentic and grounded, and I admire her for setting those boundaries.

As for what she will share, “I like my life like this, and I wouldn’t change it.”

The rumors about her possible retirement started with comments she made on a 2020 episode of The A24 Podcast. She told Nathan Fielder that, before landing her big role in Euphoria, she had considered stopping auditions because it felt like most leading roles were going to white actors.

And as a half-Mexican woman, she wondered where that left Latina actresses like herself.

Alexa, now 35, remembers being in an audition room in her early twenties and reading a description of a main character. She was surprised to see that the list of acceptable ethnicities didn’t include anyone of Hispanic background.

She explained that reading it had a strong emotional impact on her, and that feeling continued. She grew tired of being in those environments.

She explained that when you’re young, you often feel like giving up every few months. But she knew she personally wouldn’t have quit, because she’s the type of person who would prove she could handle anything.

Although Euphoria is what truly made her famous, landing the part on the HBO show wasn’t easy and involved overcoming several obstacles.

Sam Levinson, the show’s creator, said the network didn’t believe Alexa Demie was a good fit for the role of Maddy. Maddy is a popular, head cheerleader who is best friends with Cassie Howard (Sydney Sweeney) and dates Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi).

Even with the showrunner supporting her, Alexa felt her last audition was incredibly important for several reasons.

She remembered feeling like Joan of Arc, explaining that at that moment, securing the role wasn’t her primary goal. What mattered most was simply being acknowledged and seen during the audition.

Even though Alexa has been a star on a popular, award-winning TV show for years, she’s known for being very private and avoids public attention, both in her personal life and her career.

And don’t expect her to change that anytime soon.

Alexa wondered if people ever considered she might not desire fame. She felt that others were making decisions for her, taking away her own power to choose her path.
