Following Harada’s Exit, Tekken 8 Has Now Also Lost its Game Director

Tekken 8 is generating a lot of buzz right now, both about the game and the team behind it.

Recently, Tekken’s Katsuhiro Harada departed from Bandai Namco, and now, Kohei Ikeda, who directed the game, is also leaving the company.

After two decades with the publishing company and years dedicated to the fighting game series, he’s announced his retirement.

Ikeda shared that he began his career with the Soulcalibur IV game, then transitioned to the Tekken series. He eventually led the development of both Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 as game director.

He says working with such dedicated and skilled mentors and teammates on game development has been one of the most rewarding experiences of his life.

Although I’m stepping down as Game Director, the core principles that guide the Tekken project – prioritizing our fans, listening to the community, and collaborating with everyone to build the game – will always remain the same.

I’m passing on the core principles and leadership to the amazing team who will now guide the future of Tekken.

The game itself has been through some tough times, with major updates upsetting the game’s balance.

The game is getting better now, as recent updates have toned down the fast-paced action and made the Heat system more manageable.

Harada also recently left the company, just a few months ago. He’s now leading a new team working on VS Studio at SNK.

Are you surprised to see Ikeda leave Bandai Namco? Tell us in the comments section below.
