A new Mario game, not a major 3D adventure, has reportedly been leaked for Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo seems to be focusing on spin-off titles featuring supporting characters, similar to last year’s Donkey Kong game and this year’s Yoshi adventure. According to a recent report, the next spin-off will star Wario.
A new report suggests a new Wario game is in development, according to Nintendo insider Nash Weedle. While this source hasn’t always been accurate, they’ve broken legitimate news in the past. Weedle hinted at something “Wariorelated,” following the recent free release of Pictonico, a game similar to WarioWare. This likely means the new game isn’t another WarioWare title, leaving Wario Land as the most probable option. Although Wario’s Woods and Wario World are possibilities, a new installment in those series seems unlikely. If it’s not Wario Land, it could be a completely new Wario game, or potentially another WarioWare* title, which hasn’t been definitively ruled out. Either way, a new game featuring Wario is reportedly on the way.
New Wario Land Game?
The Wario Land series started as a spin-off of Super Mario, first appearing on the Game Boy in 1994 with Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3. Several games followed on different consoles, including Virtual Boy Wario Land (1995), Wario Land II (1998), Wario Land 3 (2000), and Wario Land 4 (2001). The last game, Wario Land: Shake It!, was released for the Wii in 2008, and the series hasn’t had a new installment since. Many long-time fans are hoping for a revival after nearly two decades.
Keep in mind that this information isn’t official and includes a lot of guesswork, as some important details are missing. Even if it’s true, game development is unpredictable, so things could change. However, a Nintendo Direct is expected this month, and we might learn more about this game then.
