Taylor Swift Dropping New Song for Toy Story 5: All the Details

It’s nice to have a friend in Taylor Swift

Singer Opalite will release a new song called “I Knew It, I Knew You” on June 5th. It’s featured in the upcoming Pixar movie Toy Story 5, which arrives in theaters on June 19th. Fans have been guessing about her involvement with the film for months.

Taylor Swift announced on Instagram in June that she wrote a new original song, ‘I Knew It, I Knew You,’ for the upcoming Toy Story 5. She shared that writing for these characters has been a lifelong dream, as she’s been a fan of Toy Story since she was a child and saw the first movie.

Taylor Swift shared that she immediately loved Toy Story 5 after seeing an early version, and she was inspired to write this song on the drive home. She explained that sometimes you just have that instant connection with something.

I’m so excited to finally share details about Taylor Swift’s part in the new Disney film! It’s been a long time coming, and it’s fantastic to see her joining the cast alongside icons like Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack, who are all reprising their beloved roles as Woody, Buzz, and Jessie. It’s going to be magical!

Okay, so you will NOT believe this! In April, Taylor put this amazing countdown clock on her website – it had this font that totally reminded me of Toy Story, and the cutest little animated clouds! Everyone was losing it because it seemed like something HUGE was going to happen on May 1st. We were all refreshing the page like crazy… but then she took it DOWN! Just…poof! And May 1st came and went with absolutely NOTHING happening. I’m still not over it, honestly. It was a cruel tease, but honestly, even the tease was magical because it was Taylor.

A month after the initial buzz, the team behind Toy Story, including directors Chris Stanton and McKenna Harris, and producer Lindsey Collins, hinted at the meaning of the countdown clock and whether the Grammy-winning artist might be part of the movie.

Collins said in a recent interview that having Taylor Swift contribute to the film would be fantastic. However, he revealed that the song used at the end of the movie wasn’t actually by her. He shared this information on May 27th.

Although early reports suggested Taylor Swift wasn’t involved with the movie, speculation resurfaced when the artwork for her album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), changed from seagulls to imagery resembling the Toy Story clouds. Adding to the buzz, billboards featuring the letters “TS” and 13 clouds appeared in cities worldwide.

I have to admit, when I first noticed the ‘TS’ connection, I thought maybe it was just a funny coincidence, especially since it stands for Toy Story too! But then the movie account started posting pictures of a billboard featuring Jessie from Toy Story dancing right in front of it, and honestly, it just made all the speculation even wilder. As a dedicated fan, I’m totally hooked on figuring out what it all means!

Pixar shared a video on social media on May 30th and playfully connected it to Taylor Swift’s song “Shake it Off,” writing, “She’s making things up as she goes!”

Although the return of Woody and Buzz in Toy Story 5 is a major draw this summer, there are lots of other great movies coming out too. Here’s a list of all the upcoming release dates…
