Michelle Visage has one thing to say about RuPaul‘s future on Drag Race.
The New Jersey resident openly discussed rumors that RuPaul, the creator of the reality competition show Michelle has judged for 18 seasons, might be stepping down as host – a role she’s held since 2009.
Michelle Visage recently shut down rumors about RuPaul’s potential retirement, telling TopMob News, ‘RuPaul isn’t going anywhere, and neither am I! You can trust me on that.’ She was speaking in connection with her work with ViiV Healthcare.
Even looking ahead, the singer of “Seduction” doesn’t believe anyone could replace RuPaul.
Michelle believes RuPaul will never retire, saying she truly thrives on her work. She emphasized that RuPaul has uniquely shaped the drag world, stating, ‘This is all thanks to Ru, and nobody else—not even those of us hosting today—can do it quite like she does.’
Michelle returns every year because she deeply admires the drag queen and they share a loving connection.
Michelle, 57, fondly described her friendship with Ru, which began in 1996 when they auditioned for a radio show together. She explained that while they don’t always agree on everything, they deeply appreciate each other as individuals. ‘We respect each other’s choices,’ she said, ‘so if Ru wants to eat steak and I don’t, that’s perfectly okay.’
In fact, after decades of working together, Michelle’s bond with the 65-year-old hasn’t aged a bit.
As Michelle described it, they’re all just big kids at heart. She explained that their ability to find humor in the simplest things – like impromptu dance parties, even in RuPaul’s dressing room – is what keeps them feeling youthful and energetic.
The strong bond extends to the other judges – Law Roach, Ross Mathews, Carson Kressley, Ts Madison, and Jamal Sims – who Michelle considers to be like family.

Michelle finds her greatest motivation in her 26-year-old child, Leo, who is transgender, and dedicates her work to supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
Michelle shared that she’s supported the LGBTQIA+ community since she was seventeen, and feels even more strongly now about working to improve their lives and create a more inclusive world.
As a mother to Lola, 24, and having lived through the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, Michelle is deeply committed to making the world a better place. That’s why she’s so pleased to be working with ViiV Healthcare – she sees it as a truly positive collaboration.
According to Michelle, ViiV Healthcare is unique in the pharmaceutical industry because it dedicates all its resources to preventing, treating, and eventually curing HIV. They are working towards a future where HIV is no longer a public health threat.

Michelle pointed out that many people in the past would have given anything for the current options we have to prevent HIV transmission, like PrEP. She called the new long-acting injectable form of PrEP “an amazing opportunity.”
The CDC estimates that over 2 million people in the US could benefit from taking PrEP, a medication to prevent HIV. However, according to ViiV Healthcare, only about 25% of those who could benefit are actually using it.
Michelle emphasized that many people, particularly young adults, don’t realize HIV can affect anyone, regardless of who they are or where they live. She also highlighted that PrEP, a preventative medication, is available and beneficial for everyone.
“If you think about it,” the glam expert noted, “it’s a form of self-care.”
