A light has been dimmed too soon.
Owain Rhys Davies, a Welsh actor known for his work in shows like Twin Peaks, has passed away at 44, according to his brother, Rhodri Davies.
Rhodri said his brother’s death was a “great shock” in a social media post on May 31st. He explained that while they’re still trying to understand exactly what happened, it appears Owain died suddenly, from natural causes, and peacefully.
The statement went on to say that Owain was loved and generous, and touched the lives of many people. The number of heartfelt messages received in recent days clearly showed how much he meant to others.
Rhodri spoke about the strong relationships Owain had with his friends, coworkers, and family, saying he was like a brother to many. He added that they would share more details about his death when the family was ready.
Honestly, hearing about this… it just feels unreal. He meant so much to so many of us, and knowing how much love he had is the only thing getting me through this. Right now, all we need is a little space to grieve, to be there for each other, and to try and process this awful, heartbreaking loss. It’s going to be a really tough time, and we just need to be allowed to feel it, you know?
Throughout his career, Owain appeared in both films and television shows, including roles in Netflix’s The OA, the 2016 movie Alice Through the Looking Glass, and the 2019 film A Serial Killer’s Guide to Life.

Owain was a talented performer on stage, appearing in productions at The Royal National Theatre and London’s West End. However, he was likely most recognized for playing Agent Wilson in the 2017 revival of Twin Peaks directed by David Lynch.
Owain posted a photo on Instagram with the well-known director, thanking them for the opportunity to work on the project.
Owain shared a photo from September 2017 with David, calling the experience of working with him “a wondrously beautiful thrill ride.” He expressed his gratitude for being welcomed by the cast and crew of Twin Peaks, saying it was an honor to be a part of such a remarkable show.

Following Owain’s sudden passing, the Welsh National Theater penned a moving tribute to the actor.
Owain was a hugely talented actor and writer who greatly enhanced Welsh theatre and television, according to a recent statement. His work will be fondly remembered by those who knew him and enjoyed his performances, and his passion and commitment had a significant and lasting effect on Welsh culture.
The theater shared that the Welsh arts scene has lost a valuable member, and they lamented the untold stories he would never get to share.
