After over 30 years, a new anime version of Magic Knight Rayearth is in the works! It’s set to be a major release in Fall 2026, but fans won’t have to wait that long – a world premiere will be held at Anime Expo 2026 this July.
Magic Knight Rayearth Reboot to Premiere at Anime Expo 2026
Fans will get a first look at the new Magic Knight Rayearth anime at Anime Expo 2026, with more details about the series to follow. Voice actress Rie Takahashi, who plays Fu Hooji in the reboot, will also be at the event. The full anime is scheduled to premiere in October 2026, though specific release dates and plans for international availability haven’t been revealed yet.
The upcoming reboot of Magic Knight Rayearth will be directed by Yui Miura at E&H Production (known for Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet), with Kadokawa and TMS Entertainment producing. Shigeru Murakoshi is writing the scripts, Satomi Watabe is designing the characters, and the music will be composed by Yuki Kajiura, Takumi Ozawa, and Shiho Terada. The main characters will be voiced by Ayane Sakura as Hikaru Shido, Rumi Okubo as Umi Ryuzaki, and Rie Takahashi as Fu Hooji.
What Is Magic Knight Rayearth About?
At their height, CLAMP was a hugely influential creative team, and many anime fans will remember their popular works like Cardcaptor Sakura and xxxHolic. Magic Knight Rayearth was particularly notable. While not the very first of its kind, it offered a unique take on the ‘isekai’ genre, telling the story of a group of teenagers transported to a fantasy world to rescue a princess.
This series blends the magical girl genre with mecha action and other exciting elements, creating a truly unique experience. It’s a compelling story that’s sure to make a big impression when it premieres this October.
