Kemuri Gets Brand New Trailer Showcasing Combat, Traversal, Slated for 2027 Release

Developer Unseen recently shared a new trailer for their co-op action game, Kemuri. The trailer mainly showcases the gameplay and explains that players take on the role of Yokai Hunters, tasked with tracking down mysterious creatures – essentially, to ‘Hunt the Unseen.’ You can watch it below.

A key part of the gameplay in Kemuri appears to be how players get around. Characters have various methods of traversal in the open world, including climbing buildings, gliding with hoverboards, and even flying.

The game showcases its fast-paced combat, offering players a variety of unusual weapons and unique powers to use in battle.

Developed by a new studio led by Ikumi Nakamura, the director of Ghostwire: Tokyo after she left Tango Gameworks, Kemuri was first revealed in 2023 as this indie team’s debut project. The game draws heavily from Nakamura’s past work, particularly its focus on hunting Yokai – creatures from Japanese folklore and mythology.

So, I heard from Nakamura back in February 2024 that Kemuri‘s world is going to be “semi-open.” It’s not going to be huge like some other open-world games, but she promised we’ll have a lot of freedom to explore and find things on our own. She also said it won’t be a totally straight-line story – it’s something a little different, and honestly, she admitted it’s tough to explain exactly how it’ll all work!

Kemuri is aiming for a 2027 launch.
