I was so excited when Pixar’s Hoppers finally came out! I already loved Daniel Chong’s work on We Bare Bears, and this movie did not disappoint. It’s a really funny sci-fi story about Mabel, a student who basically uploads her mind into a robot beaver – Piper Curda did a fantastic job voicing her! Everyone loved it; it got a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and made almost $388 million worldwide. After a great run in theaters, I’m so glad it’s now available to watch at home!
Starting today, June 3rd, you can now stream Hoppers on Disney+. The popular sci-fi adventure joins Pixar’s large collection of films on the service, alongside beloved classics like Coco, WALL-E, and Ratatouille, and newer movies such as Elio (coming in 2025). With a Disney+ subscription, families can enjoy Hoppers whenever they want.
What Makes Hoppers Such a Critical Hit?
The movie Hoppers has received a lot of praise because it successfully combines silly, physical humor with important messages about the environment. Director Chong made sure the movie moved quickly to keep viewers engaged, but also wanted to make its serious ecological themes easy for younger audiences to understand. The fantastic voice acting, featuring performers like Bobby Moynihan as the fussy King George the beaver and Jon Hamm as the villainous Mayor Jerry Generazzo, also greatly enhanced the production.
The film’s high Rotten Tomatoes score highlights the incredibly detailed world the filmmakers created. Instead of a typical forest, they imagined a complex animal society with its own set of rules, called the “Pond Rules.” This secret civilization has a detailed social structure, ruled by quirky monarchs, including a fearsome and controlling Insect Queen (voiced by Meryl Streep). These different groups add depth to the story, turning Hoppers into a clever political satire that adults will enjoy. Plus, the realistic detail of the animals themselves demonstrates how much Pixar’s animation technology has improved – they’ve created incredibly lifelike fur and scales while still keeping the film’s charming, cartoon style.
