Ashlyn Harris Admits She “Hurt” Ali Krieger in Divorce

Ashlyn Harris confessed she dropped the ball during her divorce.

The former US Women’s National Team goalkeeper revealed that her 2023 split from Ali Krieger, with whom she shares 5-year-old Sloane and 3-year-old Ocean, negatively affected Krieger following their four years of marriage.

Ashlyn recently shared with Us Weekly that she faced a difficult choice and regrets the pain it caused someone. She explained that life is too short to be unhappy and carry the weight of a life you don’t want, and sometimes tough decisions are necessary. However, she believes that taking those brave steps can ultimately lead to the life you’ve always dreamed of.

The 40-year-old previously made a public statement about their breakup, and is now sharing more details about how it affected her emotionally.

Ashlyn admitted she felt stuck in a cycle of trying to force things to work, desperate to avoid failure and giving up. She realized life is both fleeting and drawn-out, and this felt like her only chance. She questioned if continuing to struggle through unhappiness in her thirties – feeling unable to even get out of bed – was truly benefiting her daughter, her children, her friends, or herself.

The soccer star, a two-time World Cup winner, started divorce proceedings in September 2023. The following month, she was reported to be dating Sophia Bush, an actress known for her role in One Tree Hill. The two had become friends in 2019 after meeting at a conference.

Ashlyn, who has been with Sophia for over two years, shared that she’s truly happier than ever before. She explained that she’s finally learned to love herself, something she hadn’t felt in a long time. Previously, she had to constantly reassure herself daily with affirmations like ‘You are enough’ and ‘You can get through this,’ just to face the day. Now, self-love comes naturally.

Ashlyn is now in a relationship with Sophia, 43, who recently ended her one-year marriage to Grant Hughes in August 2023. However, Ashlyn emphasized that she has no negative feelings about her past relationship with Ali, explaining, ‘It simply wasn’t the right fit for me.’

For her part, Ali has previously expressed disappointment over the public nature of their fallout.

Ali shared in an Instagram post in 2024 that while she’s incredibly grateful for all the support she’s received over the past year, she’s also been dealing with false and misleading information about her marriage and private life.

However, the 41-year-old emphasized that their children’s safety and happiness are, most importantly, their top concern.

Ashlyn also wants to prioritize co-parenting and has used this time to discover who she is as an individual, separate from her relationship with Ali.

In 2025, Ashlyn shared with TopMob News that they emphasize to their children how fortunate they are to experience the best of both worlds. She explained that her kids aren’t forced to choose between things – instead, they get to enjoy everything twice, which she finds thrilling for them.

Ashlyn shared that they promised to love Sloane unconditionally, with support from their friends and family. They also pledged to give her everything she needs to thrive and live a fulfilling life, and to openly share her adoption story with her from day one, celebrating all of her achievements along the way.

In Aug. 2022, the duo adopted a baby boy named Ocean Maeve Krieger-Harris.

In July, Ali and her partner celebrated their son Ocean’s first birthday, calling it a “magical” day. Ali described it as a lovely getaway with family and friends, but added with a laugh that their older daughter, Sloane, insisted the day was hers and took over the celebrations – blowing out the birthday candle and opening all of Ocean’s presents!

Sloane scored a cuddle and a kiss from Ashlyn.

Ali shared on Instagram that her ice cream social with her child was a big success! She jokingly admitted she even had to nudge some kids—including her own—out of the way to get to the front of the line.

“Back with my boy,” Ashlyn wrote in Feb., “and it feels so good.”

As Ali captioned the sweet shot, “This Ocean has my heart.”
