What’s It Like Working With Pregnant Aubrey Plaza? Zach Woods Says…

Zach Woods‘ most recent project had him spinning.

Almost four years after appearing alongside Aubrey Plaza in the movie Spin Me Round—which was directed by Plaza’s late husband, Jeff Baena—Woods recently shared details about working with the actress again, this time as she was expecting a child, for his first feature film as a director.

In an exclusive interview with TopMob News at the premiere of his film, The Accompanist, Woods described a feeling of immense power, saying, ‘It felt like a huge blow to my ego.’ He went on to explain that he felt completely in control, not just of someone’s work, but of their entire life.

I met Aubrey when I was a teenager and have admired her ever since,” Woods shared, recalling their friendship that began in 2003. “I’ve always been captivated by her – she’s incredibly strong yet sensitive, tough and hilarious, and also shows a beautiful vulnerability. It’s a truly amazing talent to witness.

In the movie, Aubrey Plaza stars as Sarah, a new social worker who arranges for nine-year-old Emily (Everly Carganilla) to live with Sylvia (Susan Sarandon), a peculiar foster mother, when Emily’s grandfather’s memory problems become more serious.

As a longtime fan, I’ve always been captivated by how directors bring stories to life. Working with Plaza—who’s also a producer on this project—and Susan Sarandon really gave the director a chance to show what it takes to deliver truly captivating performances. It was fascinating to see that process up close!

Many assume actors thrive on emotion, but truly skilled ones don’t necessarily seek it out. It’s similar to taking a cold plunge – they don’t do it for personal enjoyment, but because they’re dedicated to serving the story and embodying their characters.

Seeing them initially hesitate and then fully commit, giving incredibly moving performances, it struck me that the best actors often don’t want to show emotion, but they do it brilliantly anyway.

Woods was particularly happy to be working with Plaza, who is pregnant with her first child with Christopher Abbott, and Sarandon on a film he truly cared about.

He explained to TopMob that seeing something beautiful makes you want to share it with others, like saying, ‘Look how beautiful this is!’ He felt the same way about the actors in the movie – he wanted people to recognize their talent and beauty.
