Turning video games into animated shows is a major trend in Hollywood, and Netflix has been leading the way with hits like Devil May Cry, Castlevania, Splinter Cell, Captain Laserhawk, and Arcane. Now, Paramount+ has joined the game with its own adaptation: an animated series based on the popular game Among Us, which is now available on the streaming service. To coincide with the Summer Games Fest, here’s a rundown of everything you need to know about the new Among Us show.
You can now watch all ten episodes of Among Us on Paramount+. The show follows a group of space explorers as they travel through the universe, but they have to deal with a hidden alien among them! The voice cast is full of well-known actors, including Yvette Nicole Brown (Orange), Kimiko Glenn (Cyan), Liv Hewson (Black), Ashley Johnson (Purple), Wayne Knight (Lime), Phil LaMarr (Brown), Randall Park (Red), Dan Stevens (Blue), Debra Wilson (Yellow and Computer), Elijah Wood (Green), and Patton Oswalt (White). The Cartoon Network Connection
I recently learned a bit about the creative force behind Among Us. It’s Owen Dennis, and if you’re a fan of Cartoon Network, that name might ring a bell. He’s the creator of Infinity Train, a really popular animated series that gained even more fans after it was removed from HBO Max. He’s also worked on Regular Show, and just confirmed he helped produce some episodes of its spin-off, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes.
Dennis recently told Deadline that he was drawn to the Among Us series because of its unique blend of suspense and humor. He explained that the game’s unsettling premise – being on a mostly empty spaceship with a hidden alien killer – is both creepy and funny. He sees clear influences from sci-fi classics like Alien, Star Trek, and The Thing, and enjoys the challenge of balancing those dramatic elements with comedy, something he’s explored in previous projects like Infinity Train and Regular Show.
The video game Among Us became incredibly popular after its release in 2018, largely due to its simple design and fun, chaotic gameplay. Though the new animated series has a more developed story, the game itself centered around the same core idea: figuring out who you can trust, as one player secretly acts as a killer trying to eliminate the other players.
