NetEase, a massive Chinese company, has substantial financial resources, and their new game, Blood Message, clearly demonstrates their willingness to spend big.
The latest trailer is entirely cinematic, but don’t worry, the single-player story will be playable for the press at SGF this week – it’s a real game, not just a fancy video!
Not sure what’s going on? Here’s what the press release says:
The game takes place in China during 848 AD, near the end of the Tang Dynasty. You play as an anonymous messenger sent on a dangerous trip east with a message that could decide the future of your country. The game’s historical setting draws heavily on the customs, culture, and fascinating history of this important period in Chinese history.
A father and son must fight for survival against constant attacks and a dangerous 1,000-mile journey to return to Chang’an, the capital of the Tang Dynasty. They’ll face deadly deserts, vast Asian wildernesses, and seemingly insurmountable challenges. Their story, a testament to unwavering loyalty, will be written in the sands of the desert, remembered by warriors even when history fades.
Okay, so they haven’t announced when this game is coming out yet, and honestly, it feels like it’s still a ways off. But man, it looks really good, right? I’m definitely keeping an eye on this one.
