Channel 4 is releasing a new documentary that follows Jon Snow as he navigates life after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and undertakes one final in-depth investigation.
The experienced broadcaster’s latest work, A Last Big Story, was created with the Alzheimer’s Society to share his diagnosis with the public.
While on safari at Victoria Falls with his wife, Dr. Precious Lunga, Snow discovered a local community suffering from a mining disaster that had received very little attention in the news. The disaster had destroyed their land and water sources.
According to Channel 4, Jon, along with his friend and ex-colleague Ben de Pear and a dedicated team of Zambian activists, exposes a devastating mining and environmental catastrophe. They then work to secure justice for the people affected who have been overlooked.
Jon Snow: A Last Big Story will air on Channel 4 on Saturday 20 June at 8pm.

In the film, Snow discusses his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, explaining that he initially tried to keep it a secret because of the stigma surrounding mental decline. He feels that society often dismisses people showing any signs of cognitive impairment. He emphasizes that his condition isn’t constant, and he focuses on the moments when he feels well.
He reflects that he’s gained a lot of experience and hopes he’s grown from it, but acknowledges there’s always more to discover – for everyone. He believes there’s still work to be done.
Jon Snow was the face of Channel 4 News for over three decades, from 1989 to 2021. He received two prestigious awards from BAFTA: the Richard Dimbleby Award for outstanding factual television in 2005, and a BAFTA Fellowship in 2015, recognizing his significant contribution to the industry.
According to Louisa Compton, head of news and current affairs at Channel 4, the upcoming documentary will celebrate Jon Snow, who is a beloved and iconic figure for viewers across the UK and a core part of the channel itself.
We’re honored to share the story of his final, important investigation in this film, which beautifully combines his sharp journalistic skills with his life after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Our hope is that this film will help people understand how to live well, even with a life-altering diagnosis.

Alzheimer’s Society CEO Michelle Dyson praised Jon’s bravery in sharing his dementia diagnosis publicly, saying his story will connect with many people.
By supporting the Alzheimer’s Society, he’s helping to start a much-needed national discussion about dementia. Although dementia is the leading cause of death in the UK, it doesn’t receive the same level of attention or urgent care as diseases like cancer.
Jon and his wife, Precious, are working to improve how quickly and easily people can get a diagnosis. Getting diagnosed early is crucial because it allows people to access important support, helps families prepare for the future, and may give them the chance to join research studies. Unfortunately, many people across the country are still facing long delays in getting answers about their health.
For further support and information about dementia, please visit the Alzheimer’s Society website.
