The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of strong characters, but the franchise doesn’t always focus on them equally. Since its start in 2008, the MCU has consistently added new and interesting heroes and villains, which has shifted the power dynamics within the universe. It’s grown to include cosmic and even multiversal threats, and now features many aliens, robots, and magic users who are more powerful than some of the original heroes in terms of sheer strength and abilities.
I’ve noticed something interesting about the Marvel Cinematic Universe – being incredibly powerful doesn’t automatically mean a character will be a major player going forward. It’s actually quite common to see some of their strongest heroes seemingly left out of future plans, with no clear indication of when they might return. These characters are all still around and, as far as we know, still active, but Marvel hasn’t officially said what’s next for them yet, which is a little frustrating as a fan!
6) Starfox

Although many Marvel Cinematic Universe post-credit scenes haven’t been followed up on, Eternals left viewers with some of the biggest unanswered questions. The movie introduced Eros, Thanos’s brother, and hinted he would help the Eternals. However, despite being a powerful hero, we still know nothing about Starfox’s future role beyond what was shown in Eternals.
5) Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock proved in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 that he’s an incredibly powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has a wide range of superhuman abilities, making him a major cosmic force. While he’s now part of the new Guardians team led by Rocket, Marvel hasn’t revealed much about what they have planned for him going forward. Given how strong he is, it would be a missed opportunity to not utilize Adam Warlock in future stories, but Marvel is keeping his future role under wraps.
4) G’iah

Despite being poorly received, Secret Invasion introduced what many consider to be the most powerful character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Throughout the series, the Skrull G’iah absorbed the Harvest, a blend of genetic material from numerous MCU heroes and villains. This made her incredibly strong, but because the show wasn’t popular, Marvel hasn’t announced any plans for her to reappear yet.
3) Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is a major and incredibly powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring in two solo films and a significant role in Avengers: Endgame. She most recently appeared in The Marvels, where she teamed up with other heroes. However, despite her immense power, it’s currently unclear what the future holds for her in the MCU. Though fans expect her to be in Avengers: Doomsday later this year, Brie Larson hasn’t been officially confirmed as part of the cast, leaving her role uncertain.
2) The Eternals

There was a lot of excitement around the introduction of the Eternals – a team of incredibly powerful, god-like beings – but their 2021 movie didn’t really resonate with most fans. Despite their importance to the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe and its cosmic side, there’s been no news about when or if they’ll appear in future projects. It’s surprising, especially since their first movie ended on a cliffhanger that doesn’t seem likely to be resolved anytime soon.
1) Doctor Strange

As a huge Marvel fan, I was totally blown away when Benedict Cumberbatch first appeared as Doctor Strange – he brought this amazing magical side to the MCU we hadn’t really seen before, and quickly became a favorite. He was key in the later Avengers movies, and now, with everything happening in the Multiverse Saga, he’s become one of the most important characters they have. But honestly, it’s frustrating – we haven’t gotten any official word on when we’ll see him next! There’s some buzz about him maybe showing up as a villain in Avengers: Doomsday, but it’s all just speculation right now. We’re all hoping for a return, but there’s no concrete info on when or where he’ll pop up next in the MCU.
