Okay, so as a huge Marvel fan, I’m seriously excited about this! It looks like Thor is getting a major upgrade – he’s basically building his own version of Iron Man’s armor! Imagine Thor, but with shining metal and glowing energy all over his usual outfit. Marvel just dropped a first look at this new design, and it’s awesome – one single comic issue shows it off, and I can’t wait to see it in action!
Iron Man and Thor are frequent allies in Marvel stories, though Thor often ends up assisting Tony Stark. Thor has provided Tony with incredibly rare materials – like Uru, which Tony famously used to build the Thorbuster armor designed to fight him – to help create specialized suits. Additionally, Odin once magically enhanced one of Tony’s armors during the ‘Fear Itself’ storyline.
Typically, Thor’s power-ups are more magical in nature. However, there was a unique instance in Marvel Mech Strike where he, along with other heroes, received powerful mech armor enhanced by Iron Man and Doctor Strange to amplify their abilities. Now, it looks like Thor is receiving a more standard, Iron Man-inspired technological upgrade.
Thor Battles Alongside Iron Man as One of Tony’s Awesome Friends
Marvel has revealed a new look for Thor as the Disney Junior show Iron Man and his Awesome Friends is back with a lot of new episodes. The show features Iron Man (Tony Stark), Ironheart (Riri Williams), and Iron Hulk (Amadeus Cho) battling familiar foes like Ultron, the Absorbing Man, and Swarm.
The first season of Iron Man and his Awesome Friends is getting new episodes starting June 11th, beginning with a special crossover featuring Thor, Loki, and Odin (voiced by Alan Ruck). Marvel has released a picture showing Thor in updated, high-tech armor, hinting that Iron Man and his friends will be giving the God of Thunder a costume upgrade to help him fight Loki.
Thor is depicted with glowing energy connections, much like Iron Man and Ironheart, and is wearing metallic gloves and boots. Lightning appears to flow across his body. This design echoes a look from Thor’s Ultimate Universe comics in the 2000s, where his armor was key to his powers – a concept that has influenced his appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
A new storyline featuring Thor, Loki, and Odin is starting, and it looks like Iron Man is giving some of his longtime teammates upgraded armor. Marvel says this arc will involve these heroes facing bigger threats and encountering both new allies and enemies.
Dodgers Star Mookie Betts Will Also Star
The new episode will feature some unexpected team-ups! Along with Thor, baseball star Mookie Betts will make an appearance, playing a character named Dizzy Doubleday. He’ll be shown teaching kids how to play baseball with help from his sister, Dottie, who will be portrayed by ESPN’s Jessica Mendoza.
The Iron Friends are expected to assist Dizzy and Dottie in teaching children how to play baseball, and will protect them from any problems that arise. They might team up with familiar heroes like Vision and Iron Pup to do so.
Disney Junior is providing plenty of Marvel content for young fans with shows like Spidey and His Amazing Friends, the returning Iron Man and His Awesome Friends, and the soon-to-debut Avengers: Mightiest Friends. A highlight is the confirmed appearance of Thor, a popular character who will also be a main star in Avengers: Mightiest Friends when it arrives in 2027.
Marvel’s Iron Man and his Awesome Friends returns June 11 on Disney+.
