Pluribus Season 2 Writing Hits Major “Breaking” Point In New Update

An important Pluribus season 2 update has been revealed.

Okay, so I’m really excited for the new season of Pluribus! The first season was a huge hit – apparently the most-watched thing Apple TV has ever had. Basically, it’s about this alien virus that turns almost everyone into a single, connected consciousness, but thankfully, there are a few people who don’t get affected. We follow Carol Sturka, played by Rhea Seehorn, and Manousos Oviedo (Carlos-Manuel Vesga) as they try to survive. Season one wrapped up with those two teaming up, and Carol showing up with an atomic bomb – yeah, you read that right! It left us on a major cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Gordon Smith, the show’s executive producer, told Variety that production is moving as quickly as possible, though it’s a slow process. They’re currently about halfway through writing Season 2 and are aiming to start filming again before the end of this year or in early next year.

Karolina Wydra, the actress who plays Zosia, previously told ScreenRant she thought filming for season 2 would begin “sometime in the fall.” However, based on recent comments, it now seems unlikely production will start early in the fall. It’s still possible filming could begin by the end of 2026, though it might be delayed until early 2027.

Vince Gilligan, the creator of Pluribus, has said the show won’t return every year, but new seasons will always come out in the same month. Since the first season was released in November 2025, that means season 2 could arrive as early as November 2027. This timeline is possible if filming starts in late 2026 or early 2027, according to recent updates.

The writers are currently halfway through scripting the upcoming episodes. Although Apple TV renewed the show for two seasons a while ago, season two wasn’t written ahead of time. Vince Gilligan, Michelle Smith, and the rest of the creative team are still working on it, making sure they maintain the show’s quality and don’t feel pressured to finish quickly.

It’s pretty common for streaming shows to have a break of two or more years between seasons. For example, there was about a three-year gap between the first and second seasons of Apple TV+’s Severance, and Stranger Things and Wednesday on Netflix also had three-year breaks. While The Pitt on HBO Max and Paradise on Hulu aim to return every year and have done so consistently, each show faces unique circumstances. Despite the long wait, the second season of Severance performed incredibly well, becoming Apple TV+’s most-watched show until Pluribus surpassed it.

The next installment of Pluribus begins after Carol and Manousos form a new alliance. They must now figure out what to do with the atomic bomb they’ve acquired and attempt to utilize the intelligence Manousos gained through interrogation. Many questions remain about the alien virus, and the actions of other immune survivors like Koumba Diabaté (played by Samba Schutte) will also play a key role.

Okay, so Carol and Zosia are on a break, but honestly, I have a feeling that relationship is far from over. It’s going to keep popping up in season 2 of Pluribus, especially as things with the hive mind get even crazier and Carol starts actively fighting back with Manousos. The creator, Smith, says we’re going to have to be patient though – it’ll be a while before we actually see how all this plays out on screen.
