The anime series Oblivion Battery, based on the popular manga by Eco Mikawa, premiered in April 2024. While the first season, produced by MAPPA, didn’t get the viewership it deserved, critics loved its compelling story. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a second season since the first one ended last July, but it looks like the wait will be a bit longer. MAPPA is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and will be announcing its future projects, including updates on Oblivion Battery, during a special event. The studio will stream these announcements on its official YouTube channel on June 19, 2026.
The animation studio hasn’t revealed what the announcement will be, but it’s likely connected to the third season of the anime. Earlier this year, in March, they launched a special anniversary website and a new logo to build excitement. Founded in 2011, MAPPA quickly became one of the most respected animation studios in the industry. Although Dorohedoro isn’t as widely known as some of their other popular shows like Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, it’s a fantastic dark fantasy series that rivals many international hits. In addition to an event on June 19th, MAPPA will also be hosting an exhibition in various cities throughout Japan.
What Is Oblivion Battery About?
The story follows a group of former baseball teammates who reconnect in high school. Haruka Kiyomine and Kei Kaname were a dominant pitcher-catcher combination during middle school, with Kaname’s smart plays perfectly complementing Kiyomine’s powerful throws. They were a promising duo, and their skill discouraged many aspiring players, including Taro Yamada. As a high school freshman, Yamada enrolls at Kotesashi High, only to discover that Haruka and Kei are also attending.
It’s incredibly surprising that Kei, after losing his memories, has become a crude jokester and no longer cares about baseball. He convinced Haruka to attend the same school, simply because it was nearby. Taro, having already encountered his former baseball heroes, is saddened to see them give up the sport. When the school starts a small baseball club, Taro dedicates himself to getting these gifted athletes to play again.
You can stream the anime on platforms like Crunchyroll, Prime Video, and Apple TV. For the manga, you can read it on the official Manga Plus app, which currently has 182 chapters available. While 22 volumes of the manga have been published, an English version hasn’t been licensed yet. New chapters of Oblivion Battery are released every two weeks, with the next one scheduled for January 7th, 2026.
