Gears of War: E-Day, Clockwork Revolution Are Not Timed Console-Exclusives, Says XBOX

Xbox has announced that two of its new games, Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution, will be exclusive to Xbox consoles and won’t be released on PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike some games that are temporarily exclusive, Xbox doesn’t plan to ever bring these titles to other platforms.

During the recent Xbox showcase, the new trailers for both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution confirmed that these games will only be available on Xbox Series X/S. The trailers didn’t suggest that either title would be released on PlayStation 5. Microsoft stated this exclusivity is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the Xbox platform.

I was so excited to hear more about Xbox’s plans! They announced that both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution are going to be exclusive to Xbox consoles, which is awesome. And they made it clear these aren’t just temporary exclusives – they’re committed to keeping those games on Xbox. They also said any games they’ve already announced for other platforms will still be coming to those platforms, so they’re really focused on making Xbox great on consoles and expanding beyond them. It’s good to know they’re thinking about all of us!

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently shared on social media that the company is focused on attracting more players to the Xbox platform, and is now delivering content specifically designed for Xbox.

The choice to release both Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution only on Xbox consoles seems to be a new one. This follows recent discussions with Sharma about the possibility of Xbox returning to a strategy of console-exclusive games.

She recently explained that the company is approaching this decision carefully. They need to both make their consoles appealing to new customers and ensure their games reach the widest possible audience.

Discussing the company’s strategy for releasing games, Sharma acknowledged it’s a complex issue. He explained that as the second-largest game publisher globally, reaching a wide audience is crucial. However, they’re also working to become a platform, which requires offering unique games and services that aren’t available elsewhere. He stated they are carefully considering how to balance these two goals.

We’re carefully considering each title, learning from what’s worked for others in the industry, and making sure we approach it strategically.

Over the weekend, Gears of War: E-Day was highlighted with a detailed gameplay trailer. It showed Marcus and Dom fighting off the Locust and equipping citizens to assist in the streets of Kalona. The trailer also confirmed the return of popular features like the active reload system.

A new trailer for Clockwork Revolution showcased one of the teams players can work with to pull off heists. The trailer reveals their carefully laid plans going awry, forcing Nazim, Frasmus, and Anne Darrow to battle a massive mech sent to eliminate them.

Good news for me and other PC gamers – these games aren’t just hitting Xbox Series X/S, they’re also launching on PC in early 2027! Plus, they’ll both be on Game Pass, which is awesome because I’m already subscribed.
