Mass Effect Fans, Feast Your Eyes on a Full 20 Minutes of Exodus Gameplay

It’s clear that the team behind Exodus previously worked on Mass Effect, as the game’s structure is very similar to BioWare’s popular series.

I’ve been hearing about Exodus for ages – it felt like another Mass Effect-inspired game, similar to The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, just kinda…existing in development. But now that we’re getting closer to its early 2027 release, the developers, Archetype Entertainment, are finally starting to really show us what this sci-fi RPG is all about.

In this 20-minute video, director Chris King gives a detailed look at the game. He discusses the story, characters, conversations, world exploration, and fighting mechanics.

Here’s a quick breakdown of the main points:

  • You play as an established character called Jun, but you can be male or female, and customise their appearance to a degree
  • There’s a main cast of party members who you get to know over the course of the game
  • There are a number of romance options
  • Gameplay is a mix of combat encounters and environmental traversal / puzzles
  • You can be a good guy (Paladin) or a slightly less good guy (Immortal)
  • Your decisions and actions impact the story’s direction and how characters view you
  • Combat is built around cover-based shooting with abilities and party commands

It definitely feels a lot like Mass Effect so far, even with similar choices for how you act, but I’m okay with that if the game, Exodus, ends up being good. This detailed look at the project makes it seem like it has a lot of potential.
