KPop Demon Hunters Fans Are Divided Over THAT Shocking Parody in Hit New Movie, “Painful To Sit Through”

The Scary Movie franchise returned to theaters this weekend after a twelve-year hiatus, with the original creators, the Wayans Brothers, back at the helm. Considering the first Scary Movie was a parody of the Scream films, its comeback is well-timed, as Scream is currently enjoying a resurgence in popularity. Plus, the horror genre has evolved significantly since the last Scary Movie, offering plenty of new material for comedic parody.

The Scary Movie franchise is known for poking fun at popular culture, and the latest installment continues that tradition. Past films have parodied everything from The Matrix to Get Out, and this time, KPop Demon Hunters is in the crosshairs. The movie even includes a risqué parody of the Oscar-winning song “Golden.” While some fans are loving the joke, calling it a highlight of the film, others have found it cringeworthy.

Scary Movie’s KPOP Demon Hunters Parody Gets Roasted

The latest Scary Movie features a parody of KPop Demon Hunters that unfolds predictably: Marlon Wayans’ character, Shorty, gets high on marijuana and hallucinates an encounter with them. Interestingly, this scene is presented as an animated sequence, with Shorty performing a weed-themed version of the song “Golden.”

Instead of singing “Oh, I’m done hidin’ now I’m shinin’, Like I’m born to be,” the Scary Movie version has Shorty sing, “Now I’m flying, time for dining cuz I got the munchies.” This is followed by “We about to be tokin, gonna be, gonna be smokin'” – a twist on the original’s “You know together we’re glowing, Gonna be, gonna be golden.” Throughout the song, Shorty also leads all three main characters to bed while a character parodying “Derpy” from the film attempts to watch.

A joke in the latest Scary Movie has sparked some backlash from viewers. Many took to social media to express their discomfort with the bit, comparing it to a genuinely scary moment rather than a funny one. One user described a K-pop Demon Hunters parody as “painful to sit through,” sharing a GIF of Jim Carrey looking sick. Another commenter said the joke, featuring a character named Shorty, simply wasn’t funny and didn’t provide any entertainment.

Many viewers actually loved the KPop Demon Hunters parody in Scary Movie 6, considering it a highlight of the film. One fan wrote it was “so f–king hilarious,” while another commented that the movie’s jokes about Trump, Kai, and the demon hunters were really funny.

Despite some negative reactions from fans of the KPop Demon Hunters, the movie Scary Movie performed very well in theaters. It earned $106 million worldwide over the weekend, with $55 million coming from audiences in the US and Canada. This is the biggest opening weekend for a comedy film since 2014’s 22 Jump Street, and the most successful opening ever for a Scary Movie film.

Given the recent success, it’s likely we’ll see a Scary Movie 7 announced and released in theaters within the next year or two. Fans can also expect another joke referencing KPop Demon Hunters to appear in the new film, since the sequel to that movie isn’t due until 2029, giving Scary Movie a chance to include a quick reference before then.
