With many Agatha Christie stories already being adapted for television, the BBC announced last month they were creating a new series featuring her most well-known detective, Hercule Poirot.
The network has announced the actor who will play the iconic detective Poirot, following in the footsteps of previous stars like David Suchet, Albert Finney, and Kenneth Branagh.
Edward Bluemel has landed the highly sought-after role and will be using his detective skills in a new six-episode adaptation simply titled ‘Hercule’.
As a lifelong movie fan, I was really excited to hear Bluemel talk about taking on the role of Hercule Poirot. He said he feels incredibly fortunate to be following in the footsteps of so many legendary actors who’ve played the character, and he’s eager to add his own chapter to Poirot’s story. It’s clear he understands the weight of the role and is genuinely thrilled to be continuing the legacy.

Bluemel is a recognizable actor, known for roles in popular shows like A Discovery of Witches, Killing Eve, Sex Education, Ten Percent, Castlevania: Nocturne, Belgravia: The Next Chapter, My Lady Jane, We Might Regret This, and Washington Black.
He’s no stranger to Agatha Christie, recently starring as Jimmy Thesiger in the Netflix series, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials.
Bluemel joins a distinguished group of actors who have portrayed the famous Belgian detective, following in the footsteps of Sir Peter Ustinov, John Malkovich, Alfred Molina, and Peter Dinklage.

I’m really intrigued by the new Poirot series. It’s being helmed by Benji Walters, a director I’ve been following – he’s done some solid work on shows like Code of Silence, Obsession, The Leopard, and Noughts & Crosses. Considering his background, I’m expecting a visually stylish and gripping take on the classic detective.
James Prichard, from Agatha Christie Limited, shared that his father worked with David Suchet for almost 25 years. He’s now pleased to bring his great-grandmother’s wonderful stories to a new audience.
I’m so excited about Edward Bluemel taking on the role of Hercule Poirot! He’s an incredibly gifted actor, and I have no doubt he’ll be fantastic. Plus, Benji Walters’ writing seems really smart and sensitive, which will definitely help him bring this iconic character to life. I can’t wait to see him on screen!
Production on Hercule will start this summer, mainly in Liverpool. The series will first be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, and then on BritBox in North America.
Hercule will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
