The first celebrity contestant announced for the new season of Strictly Come Dancing is Lacey Turner, best known for her role on the soap opera EastEnders.
Lacey Turner, famous for her role as Stacey Slater on the BBC soap opera for more than 20 years, was one of the first actors confirmed to return for the new 24th series, news which emerged last month.
Turner expressed her excitement about joining the cast of Strictly Come Dancing this year, saying she can’t wait to start dancing.
I’m so excited to be participating this year instead of watching from home! I can’t wait to meet everyone and learn something new.
Last year, the actress took a temporary leave from her role on EastEnders. Her character, Stacey, went to Brazil with her kids to help out at her brother Sean’s bar.
Turner explained to the BBC that Stacey desperately needed a change of scenery. She’d been through a lot, and the loss of Martin had been particularly difficult, especially having to walk past his market stall every day. He felt a trip to Brazil, though far away, was exactly what she needed to start healing.
Having already won several British Soap Awards and National Television Awards, Turner is likely aiming to win the coveted glitter ball trophy.

The popular Saturday night dance competition is getting a new hosting team! Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe will be taking over from Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
The show will also feature professional dancers including Dianne Buswell, Amy Dowden, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Aljaž Škorjanec, Jowita Przystał, Johannes Radebe, Nancy Xu, Kai Widdrington, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Vito Coppola, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon.
More information about the next season of Strictly Come Dancing will be shared over the summer before it returns to BBC One and iPlayer in September.
