Sony ‘Exploring New Ways’ to Deliver PS Plus Games

Sony is looking into better ways to add games to its PS Plus Extra library in the US, UK, and Japan – its most important markets.

The newest Game Catalogue update will launch worldwide on June 16th, as expected. However, in certain regions, only a limited number of games will be available at first.

You can play Sonic X Shadow Generations starting today, but Blades of Fire won’t be available until June 30th.

The schedule looks like this:

10th June

  • Sonic X Shadow Generations (US, UK)

11th June

  • Sonic X Shadow Generations (Japan)

16th June

  • Final Fantasy 16 (Globally)
  • Gitaroo Man (Globally)

23rd June

  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance (US, UK, Japan)
  • Life Is Strange: Double Exposure (US, UK, Japan)

30th June

  • Farming Simulator 25 (US, UK, Japan)
  • Blades of Fire (US, UK, Japan)
  • Black Desert (US, UK, Japan)

Sony hasn’t said why they’re making this change, but it likely aims to get people to use their services more often. By releasing new content throughout the month instead of all at once, they hope users will visit more frequently to check for updates.

It’s notable that this change is being introduced in only a few areas, likely so they can gather feedback and track how it performs.

There are definitely some benefits – like getting the Sonic Generations remake early in certain regions – but it feels a little unfair to make fans in other areas wait. I’m interested in trying Blades of Fire, but I’ll have to wait two weeks longer than everyone else.
