Halo: Campaign Evolved Is Another PS5 Disc That Requires a Download to Actually Play

If you’re planning to buy a physical copy of Halo: Combat Evolved for PlayStation 5, be aware that you’ll need to download the game before you can play it – it won’t run directly from the disc.

Okay, so it looks like there’s a new thing happening with games. Before I can finally play Master Chief on PlayStation, I have to download some extra content first. It’s becoming super common, apparently!

Recent updates on retail sites like Amazon show this information. The game’s packaging even includes a note mentioning it.

Since Campaign Evolved is designed only for single-player gameplay – the remake doesn’t include any of the original game’s multiplayer features – you might think you wouldn’t need to download any additional files to play it.

This is similar to other games, such as Starfield and Crimson Desert, that require a large download even after you’ve purchased the disc. Many other titles have the same issue.

If you’re collecting physical games, especially to keep them playable long-term, news like this is really concerning. If the game’s online services ever shut down, the physical disc essentially becomes useless, just an expensive decoration.
