As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve seen a lot of debate around the Disney-era films, and honestly, the Sequel Trilogy really seemed to split people. But one thing I think a lot of us can agree on is that Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver, was a really compelling character. He wasn’t just another bad guy; his internal struggle with the dark side and his fascination with Darth Vader felt different and like there was so much more to explore. He instantly felt like a standout villain in the Star Wars universe.

Kylo Ren is arguably the most compelling character from the recent Star Wars sequel trilogy. Even years after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, fans are still intensely interested in understanding how Ben Solo became Kylo Ren and turned to the dark side. A major unanswered question continues to captivate fans: who exactly are the Knights of Ren? These masked warriors were heavily featured in promotional materials and backstory, but their role was never fully explained in the films.

I was really excited when I first heard about a movie exploring Ben Solo’s past, but that project sadly never happened. Then, The Acolyte came along, and while it definitely sparked a lot of debate – kind of like the sequel trilogy did – it actually started to explain the Knights of Ren. It seemed like the series was going to turn them from this mysterious group we barely understood into a really important piece of the Star Wars puzzle.

The Acolyte Gave Important Lore To Kylo Ren

The character of The Stranger (Manny Jacinto) sparked a lot of conversation among viewers of The Acolyte. Fans quickly pointed out the strong resemblance between his helmet and the famous mask worn by Kylo Ren. The show subtly suggested a link between them, and even incorporated elements of Kylo Ren’s musical theme into key scenes featuring The Stranger.

I was so excited watching The Acolyte – it really felt like they were building towards something huge, revealing a connection between The Stranger and Kylo Ren! It was a real shame when Disney canceled it, but the creator, Leslye Headland, later confirmed what many of us suspected. Apparently, The Stranger was always meant to be the very person who started the group that Kylo Ren would eventually lead, centuries down the line. It’s incredible to know that theory was right all along!

The initial design for Kylo Ren, particularly the landing shape of his ship, hinted at a future link to the Knights of Ren. This sparked the idea of exploring their origins. We also knew we wanted to introduce Darth Plagueis, who would eventually become Palpatine’s master. To maintain the Sith’s Rule of Two – the tradition of only having a master and one apprentice – we theorized that the character known as ‘The Stranger’ could have been the very first Knight of Ren, belonging to a group with Sith-like beliefs that ultimately endured.

As a fan, I’m really excited about what The Acolyte could mean for the Knights of Ren! For so long, in the sequel trilogy, they felt like this mysterious dark side group that didn’t really do much, despite how important Kylo Ren’s past with them was supposed to be. They just never got the story they deserved. But this new series has a real chance to finally explain who they are and why they matter, and honestly, that’s a huge relief!

The Disney+ Star Wars series could have cleverly linked the High Republic era to the events of the sequel trilogy by revealing The Stranger as the original founder of the Knights of Ren. This would have given the Knights a rich history, showing them as an ancient order stemming from a Force-user who didn’t follow typical Sith beliefs. This connection would have also added significant depth and intrigue to Ben Solo’s character.

The Knights Of Ren Are One Of Many Reasons The Acolyte Shouldn’t Have Been Canceled

The cancellation of The Acolyte is especially disappointing because the character of Qimir, who founded the Knights of Ren, was a standout. His story was important to the larger Star Wars universe, and now, with the show ending after just one season, we probably won’t get to see the full development of his influence on screen.

One reason it was disappointing to see The Acolyte canceled is that the show had storylines that weren’t finished. Despite the criticism it received, The Acolyte brought new and interesting ideas to the Star Wars universe. By taking place during the High Republic era, it showed a part of Star Wars history we hadn’t seen much of before. Plus, the series revealed Darth Plagueis, a major Sith character, in live-action for the first time in years.

The lightsaber fights in The Acolyte were among the most exciting duels in Star Wars history. But what really set the show apart was its ability to connect different time periods within the franchise. Characters like The Stranger and his ties to the Knights of Ren subtly created a link between the High Republic era and the events of the Sequel Trilogy. Had the show continued with a second season, The Acolyte could have provided the Sequel Trilogy with the rich backstory that many fans desired.
