Xbox Boss Responds to Demand for New Banjo-Kazooie Game

Matt Booty, the head of content at Xbox, has addressed the many fan requests for a new Banjo-Kazooie game. While the franchise is a classic and owned by Xbox, the last installment, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, came out in 2008, and there haven’t been any new games since. Booty hasn’t ruled out the possibility of revisiting the Banjo-Kazooie series in the future, though a new game isn’t currently in development.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Xbox head Matt Booty discussed the possibility of reviving classic franchises like Banjo-Kazooie. He confirmed that Xbox is considering options for these older properties, potentially developing them internally or partnering with other studios. Booty stated they are always evaluating whether to create new games based on these franchises, suggesting future projects are a possibility.

As someone who loves gaming, it’s awesome to hear how many different options Xbox has right now. We’ve got our own studios making games, we publish those titles directly, and we get to collaborate with amazing partners like Kojima Productions. Plus, we have tons of smaller, independent developers coming in through ID@Xbox, which is fantastic. Honestly, it feels like we can explore all sorts of different game ideas and experiences, and we’re always checking out what’s possible.

It’s not surprising that Phil Spencer’s recent statement was cautious. While it’s good to know Xbox hasn’t ruled out revisiting Banjo-Kazooie, his failure to mention the franchise directly or acknowledge its dedicated fans doesn’t offer much reassurance. This makes it difficult to believe that a new Banjo-Kazooie game is currently in development.

The recent Xbox Games Showcase suggested that Xbox is interested in bringing back some of its classic game series. A prime example is the new Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the first completely new Spyro game in over 15 years, following 2008’s The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon. This success raises hopes that other beloved franchises, like Banjo and Kazooie, could also be revived.
