David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown are on good terms.
Following reports that Millie Bobby Brown filed a harassment and bullying complaint against him during the filming of Stranger Things‘ final season, David Harbour addressed the situation publicly.
David Harbour explained that the situation was easily resolved after everyone had a chance to communicate. “It was just a quick fix,” he told Variety on June 10th. He added that people today often avoid open communication and struggle with vulnerability, being afraid to simply be human.
He added that he feels lost when it comes to dealing with the media. However, he emphasized that their relationship is healthy and loving, and always has been.
The close, family-like connection between Millie Bobby Brown, 22, and David Harbour – who play Eleven and her adoptive father Jim Hopper – both on and off the screen helped them resolve any past issues.
The show lasted a decade,” he said. “We worked together as father and daughter for ten years, during her teenage years. It’s not always easy spending that much time with anyone – family or friends – you’re bound to have some disagreements now and then.”
And from his perspective, their situation just became amplified.
He explained that disagreements are normal within families and people usually resolve them. However, a large-scale production like a billion-dollar show attracts a lot of opinions and involvement, making conflicts more complicated.

He acknowledged the news about the claim surfaced strangely, but emphasized that he and Brown are currently on good terms.
He jokingly hinted at future collaborations with Millie Brown, saying ten years working together wasn’t enough. He explained they share a close connection and expressed affection for each other.
And for Brown, that feeling is mutual.
I grew a lot as an actor between the first and fifth seasons, and David was with me throughout that journey,” she explained. “Our working relationship evolved into a true creative partnership. After working together for so long, we were able to challenge each other and bring a lot of emotional depth to our scenes.

She said she was still very grateful now that the show is over. She’ll always cherish the experience of working with him for so many years.
This isn’t the first time Brown has spoken highly of Harbour. She previously discussed their working relationship and how they approached more sensitive scenes together while filming the last season of the popular Netflix series, Enola Holmes.
She told Deadline in a TikTok interview on November 28th that she felt safe, explaining, ‘We’ve worked together for ten years, and I feel safe with everyone on set.’
Brown spoke fondly of her strong working relationship with Harbour, calling it a truly enjoyable experience. She explained that working with the Black Widow star helped her become a better actress.
She explained that working with him motivates her to perform at her best, knowing he’ll reciprocate with equally strong work.

Before creating Stranger Things, brothers Matt and Ross Duffer worked on M. Night Shyamalan’s TV series Wayward Pines. Their initial idea for the show was originally called Montauk.
Ugh, it was SO tough getting everyone on board with Stranger Things! Seriously, once Matt had that title in his head, it was a battle. He told The Daily Beast back in 2016 that it was really hard to convince people it was the right name. He was so attached to it, and at first, nobody else seemed to get it! It just felt… perfect to him, but getting others to see that was a struggle.

The creators of the show originally planned to film on Long Island, but it turned out to be too difficult to do so.
Matt told The Hollywood Reporter they chose Montauk as a filming location because of its beautiful seaside environment, its connection to the fictional town in Jaws – which he called his favorite movie – and the overall cool vibe. However, he quickly realized shooting on Long Island during the winter would be both extremely unpleasant and costly.
Atlanta ultimately became the home base for production.

Before Netflix decided to air the show, around 20 other networks rejected it, as reported by Vulture. Executives at those networks thought viewers wouldn’t connect with a series led by four child actors.

4. To play Eleven, then 12-year-old Millie Bobby Brown had to say goodbye to her hair.
In 2018, at PaleyFest, the actress described shaving her head as the most liberating experience of her life. She explained that letting go of her hair felt like revealing her true self, as she could no longer hide behind it. Looking in the mirror, she felt a responsibility to inspire others, realizing that beauty doesn’t depend on having hair.

Honestly, when putting together this look, I was really inspired by Charlize Theron’s powerful vibe in Mad Max: Fury Road. I also did a deep dive into some vintage photos of my co-star, Winona Ryder – her old yearbook pictures were a total mood board moment! It was all about channeling that strong, slightly edgy energy.
She mentioned Winona Ryder’s old pixie cut was really stylish and she was considering getting the same hairstyle herself.

The British actress shared a surprising source she used to nail her American accent: Miley Cyrus’s Hannah Montana. She told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show that the show was “so good” and that “everything about it is amazing,” helping her perfect the accent.

The Duffer brothers used scenes from the movie Stand By Me when auditioning young actors to find the four main child stars for their show.

Honestly, the creators had a specific vision for Mike, but it didn’t quite click until Finn Wolfhard came in to audition. He totally changed everything – in the best way, of course! He just was Mike the moment he read for the part.
Matt explained to The Daily Beast in 2016 that Mike originally resembled the character Mikey from The Goonies – a bit of a dreamer. However, Finn Wolfhard brought a nervous, energetic quality to the audition, so they tailored the character to fit his personality.

Dustin’s character was significantly shaped by actor Gaten Matarazzo. According to Matt, they initially envisioned Dustin as a typical “nerd,” but after meeting Gaten, they rewrote the character to better suit his talents and personality.

After the show featured Eleven’s love for Eggo waffles, Kellogg’s experienced a noticeable boost in sales. They reported a 14% increase in waffle consumption in late 2017, coinciding with the release of season two. October of that year also saw the highest number of social media mentions for Eggo waffles in a single month.

In early 2018, David Harbour became an internet sensation when he agreed to take a fan’s senior portraits. It all started when the fan tweeted, asking how many retweets it would take to convince him to do her photos. Harbour responded that 25,000 retweets would do the trick, with the added condition that he got to wear the school sweatshirt and hold a trombone. And true to his word, he followed through!
He jokingly predicted on Instagram that, 24 years later, he’d be known for crashing someone else’s high school senior photos.

Later that year, Harbour playfully offered to marry a fan if she could get 125,000 retweets and a piece of her wedding cake. He became officially ordained and ended up performing the ceremony dressed as his character, Chief Hopper.

As a huge fan, I always loved the theories about Eleven being Hopper’s biological daughter! While that wasn’t the case, it was so heartwarming to see him become her father figure. And honestly, the detail that really got me was seeing Eleven wear that little blue braided bracelet at the school dance – the one made from his daughter Sarah’s hair ribbon. It was such a subtle, beautiful touch and a perfect way to show their connection.

Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven, said her first-ever kiss was with Finn Wolfhard (Mike) during season one of the show. She described the experience as ‘strange,’ adding that having a large crew watching made it feel overwhelming.

She shared what her co-star secretly told her before they had to kiss for a second time on the show.
She recalled that he warned her he was about to kiss her, describing how he said, ‘I’m coming in,’ but did so in a strange way. ‘It was like he was a ventriloquist,’ she explained on The Tonight Show in 2017. ‘It was the craziest thing!’

Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton, who star as Nancy and Jonathan in the show, started dating in 2016 and have generally preferred to keep their relationship out of the public eye.
Natalia explained to Refinery 29 that she generally prefers to keep personal matters private, especially when it comes to family and friends. However, she also shared that collaborating with someone you know personally can be enjoyable, saying, “It’s always really fun.”

Surprisingly, Joe Keery’s character, Steve Harrington, wasn’t originally meant to survive the first season of the show.
According to Ross, they quickly grew fond of Joe Keery, who played Steve, while filming the first season. This is why they developed a storyline where Steve teams up with Jonathan and Nancy to help resolve the central conflict. Originally, Steve was intended to be a stereotypical, unpleasant athlete, but Keery brought much more depth to the character.

18. Also slated to perish was Eleven. Yes, really.
According to Ross Duffer, in the book Stranger Things: Worlds Turned Upside Down, the original plan was for Eleven to sacrifice herself to save everyone. However, when they realized the show might continue beyond a single season, they had to change that storyline. They understood that Stranger Things wouldn’t work without Eleven, and they quickly recognized how talented Millie Bobby Brown was. So, if the show continued, Eleven needed to survive.

The seventh episode of the second season, called “The Lost Sister,” nearly didn’t air. The Duffer brothers told Vulture they worried the episode—which focuses on Eleven searching for another child with similar experiences—would disrupt the story’s flow.
Matt explained that as they started writing the episode, they questioned whether it was actually necessary. They even considered cutting it entirely, but the planned ending involving Eleven didn’t work without it. Ultimately, they decided the episode was essential.

20. Eleven’s sibling was written to be a boy, with the episode originally titled “The Lost Brother.”
Once the audition was open to all young actors, Linnea Berthelsen was chosen for the role. The episode then showed Eleven meeting her “sister,” Kali. According to Matt, Millie Bobby Brown and Linnea Berthelsen had a strong connection, and Millie specifically wanted to work with Linnea.

Nicola Coughlan, the actress known for her role in Bridgerton, originally tried out for the part of Robin. However, she later landed the role of Penelope Featherington. Maya Hawke ended up getting the role of Robin, and Nicola has said Hawke was much better suited for it than she would have been.
She explained that actors can learn a lot from roles they don’t land. Seeing why another actor was chosen helps you realize it’s not a reflection of your talent – you’re simply better suited for some parts than others.

Before becoming known for her role as Sarah on the Netflix series Outer Banks, Madelyn Cline played the character Tina, a popular and somewhat unkind student, in the second season of the show.

To land the role of Billy, the rebellious older stepbrother of Max (Sadie Sink), Australian actor Dacre Montgomery created a memorable audition tape. He told GQ he aimed to impress the Duffer brothers with something bold and attention-grabbing.
Dacre took a big chance by filming himself dancing to 80s hits like “Come on Eileen” and “Hungry Like the Wolf” while wearing very little clothing – just a G-string. He worried about sending the video, thinking it could either end his career or finally get him noticed. Luckily, the risk paid off.

As the show entered its third season, Deadline reported significant pay raises for the cast. The younger actors saw their per-episode earnings jump from around $30,000 to over $200,000, and potentially as high as $250,000. Winona Ryder and David Harbour were reportedly earning between $300,000 and $350,000 per episode, while Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton were making $100,000 to $150,000.

Priah Ferguson was originally scheduled for just one episode in season two as Erica, Lucas’s feisty younger sister. However, the Duffer brothers were so impressed with her performance that they continued to include her, eventually making her a main cast member in the next season.

Because the young actors were still growing during filming, the costume designers had a hard time making sure their clothes fit consistently from scene to scene.
Costume designer Kim Wilcox described a surprising challenge while working on the project. “One young actor grew so quickly – about half a shoe size every three weeks – that we could barely keep him fitted!” she told TopMob News. To solve this, Wilcox sourced shoes from brands that offered the same style in a wide range of sizes. “We’d buy multiple pairs so we’d always have a size that fit as they grew.”

The Duffer brothers, while inspired by films like The Goonies, E.T., and Stand By Me, made sure their references weren’t too obvious.
When we initially presented the project to Netflix, we created a lengthy, two-and-a-half-minute trailer. It combined clips and ideas from around 20 to 30 movies to give a sense of the Stranger Things story, but those were just concepts we had in mind, explained Matt in an interview with The Daily Beast. Those films were hugely influential on us growing up and deeply shaped our creative vision. However, once we started writing individual episodes, we rarely talked about other movies. We focused on telling the story and letting the characters drive the plot. Otherwise, it would have become confusing and disjointed.

The team initially aimed for a retro style by minimizing special effects, but they soon discovered that was more challenging than expected.
Originally, we wanted to rely on traditional, physical effects. But we quickly learned – and gained a lot of respect for the teams behind films like The Thing and Alien – that practical effects are incredibly challenging. They require a huge amount of time and planning. We were writing scripts rapidly, but didn’t have the months needed to properly prepare everything. When we got to set, ideas that seemed good in theory just weren’t feasible because we lacked the time.

The creators, the Duffer brothers, originally planned for ‘Stranger Things’ to last five seasons. According to Netflix executive Matthew Thunell, much of what they imagined back in 2015 is now happening as the series nears its conclusion. Each episode of season four reportedly cost around $30 million, as noted by Variety magazine.

Although the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, know how the show will eventually end, they aren’t finished exploring the story and its mysterious world, the Upside Down.
In an interview with Variety, the creators revealed they have a spin-off idea they’re really enthusiastic about, though it’s still in the very early stages. They haven’t shared the concept with anyone yet, and haven’t even started writing it.
However, Matt and Ross confessed that Finn had already correctly guessed what the series would be about, calling it ‘very, very different.’ They emphasized that Finn is the only one who knows the idea so far.
