Sega Game Now Free for PlayStation Plus Subscribers

A Sega game released this year is now available at no extra cost with most PlayStation Plus subscriptions. It’s included with PS Plus Extra and Premium, but not with the basic PS Plus Essential tier. While the game won’t be available forever, its exact removal date hasn’t been announced. Games added to Extra and Premium usually stay available for either 12 or 24 months, giving players ample time to enjoy it.

Starting today, June 11th, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members on both PS4 and PS5 can download Sonic X Shadow Generations. This game includes a remastered version of the classic Sonic Generations from 2011, as well as a new story called Shadow Generations that takes place alongside the original game’s events.

82-Rated Sega Game

When Sonic X Shadow Generations released, it earned a Metacritic range of 77 to 82. This is a decent range, but its PlayStation Store rating suggests it should be better. To date, it has over 9,800 user reviews, with a 4.73 out of 5 rating. That’s a 95 on a 100-point scale. Speaking of the PlayStation Store, it costs $50 on there, so this is a very healthy bit of savings for PS Plus subscribers.

The game puts you in control of Shadow, who has to travel back in time to deal with difficult memories and enemies from his past. He’ll also gain new abilities as he tries to defeat his greatest enemy, Black Doom, and save the world. But that’s not all – this release also includes a remastered version of Sonic Generations, featuring improved graphics and extra content. In Sonic Generations, both classic and modern versions of Sonic must work together to stop the combined forces of classic and modern Dr. Eggman, who are trying to change the past. Throughout the game, you’ll experience levels in both 2D and 3D styles.

Although this package includes two games, Shadow Generations can’t be bought separately and is quite short. The main story of Sonic X Shadow Generations takes around six hours to complete, or twelve hours if you explore everything. If you want to find absolutely everything, it’ll take dedicated players around thirty hours. If this combination doesn’t appeal to you, don’t worry – eight more games are on the way!
