Taylor Swift could build a castle out of all the unnecessary bricks thrown at her.
As the “Opalite” singer attended to watch the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs face off in Game 4 of the NBA Finals alongside friends Este Haim and Alana Haim, her attendance was met with criticism from an announcer calling the game.
“Is that Taylor Swift down there?” Knicks analyst Monica McNutt said during the June 10 broadcast, which was later shared to social media. “She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here girl.”
TopMob News reached out to the Knicks for comment but has not yet heard back. McNutt teased she may address the comments at a later time in a June 11 Instagram post.
Despite the cold welcome she received from the former Georgetown basketball player, Swift appeared to have a marvelous time as the Knicks ruined everything for the Spurs. Indeed, New York had a historic NBA Finals comeback, beating the San Antonio team 107 to 106 with an assist by OG Anunoby with just over a second remaining in regulation.
Taylor Swift had a great time watching the game from courtside with the Haim sisters. Each of them wore a custom T-shirt with a clever play on words related to the New York Knicks. Taylor’s shirt said “Stevie Knicks,” a tribute to her friend and mentor Stevie Nicks. The Haim sisters’ shirts read “Knicole Kidman” and “Knickleback,” referencing actress Nicole Kidman and the band Nickelback.
Meanwhile, Law & Order: SVU star—and noted Knicks superfan—Mariska Hargitay also joined in on the fun, swapping her own Knicks T-shirt for one that matched Swift’s mid-game. The foursome acted as a de facto spirit squad throughout the night, with Taylor jumping for joy and hugging Hargitay after New York’s monumental win.

Taylor Swift publicly became a fan of the New York team in 2014, soon after moving to the city. That year, she went to several games and even played basketball with players Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire to celebrate her upcoming album, 1989.
Taylor Swift publicly acknowledged being a fan of Amare Stoudemire, but also revealed her passion for the New York Knicks went back much further in time.
In 2014, she told TIME magazine that she performed at the halftime show of the Knicks’ Kids Talent Competition at Madison Square Garden when she was 12 or 13 years old. She’s felt a special connection to both the Garden and the Knicks ever since, because they gave her the opportunity to sing as a child.
