Cartoon Network Revival Turns to Horror For Latest Brutal Release

Cartoon Network has been successfully bringing back older shows, with popular series like Regular Show, Adventure Time, and Gumball all making comebacks in recent years. These revivals – including Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, and Adventure Time: Side Quests – are adding to the stories and worlds fans already love. While most of these returns are animated shows, not all of them are. In fact, a major comeback planned for 2026 was recently released as a comic book, offering a more grown-up version of the original series.

The second issue of Dynamite Comics’ rebooted Ben 10 series came out earlier this week after a short wait. Picking up where the first issue left off, Ben Tennyson has found the Omnitrix, but his transformations are far more disturbing than anything seen in the animated shows. Similar to Marvel’s Immortal Hulk, Ben’s alien forms are constantly shifting and changing in a frightening way. The comic also features a darker take on the classic villain Kraab, showcasing the mature direction this new series is taking. The story doesn’t shy away from intense scenes, with Kraab brutally fighting through soldiers.

Ben 10’s Dark Turn

To celebrate the release of the second comic book issue, Joe Casey, a co-creator of Ben 10 and experienced comic writer, discussed the more mature tone of this new series. He’s particularly excited about bringing the character Cannonbolt to life in the comics, and the issue ends with a surprising Cannonbolt cliffhanger that wouldn’t have appeared in the original animated show. While the first issue reimagined familiar characters, upcoming previews suggest that some will be returning with significantly darker and more intense designs.

A preview of an upcoming Ben 10 comic book cover revealed a drastically redesigned Zombozo, making the villain much scarier than his appearance in the Cartoon Network show. While Zombozo has always been a challenging foe for Ben Tennyson and his team, the comic series is presenting him as a truly terrifying threat, unlike anything fans have seen before.

The Ben 10 comic is currently planned as an ongoing series, which could mean we’ll see this new version of the classic Cartoon Network show for a long time. While there’s no news yet about a return to television, many of the original creators would like to bring the character back. In 2024, Ben 10 co-creator Duncan Rouleau mentioned wanting to explore a more grown-up version of the story. It’s uncertain if Ben Tennyson will appear in animated form again, but the comic is continuing to develop this new take on the Ben 10 universe.
