One of my personal highlights from Sony’s latest State of Play is Bancho the Chef, a prequel to the beloved Dave the Diver that tells the story of how the cook became a legendary seafood expert.
I just checked out the latest dev diary, and Mintrocket gave us a little more info about the new game. They’re starting to share what we can expect, which is awesome!
Jaeho Hwang, head of the studio, describes Bancho the Chef as a mix of cooking simulation and adventure gameplay.
The game’s story is set 19 years before the events of Dave the Diver, when Bancho was younger and hadn’t lost his hair yet, according to the developer.
“You follow him as he travels through various cities across Asia, learning the art of seafood cuisine.”
Bancho is learning from famous chefs across Asia, and you’ll experience this through a series of cooking challenges where you try to create and serve the best dishes to customers.
Hwang also makes a point of saying the PS5’s DualSense controller will get a workout.
We’re aiming to fully utilize the DualSense controller’s features – specifically the vibrations and adjustable triggers – to make players truly feel like they’re cooking, right through the controller.
Mintrocket packed Dave the Diver to breaking point with varied gameplay mechanics and fun side activities, so I’m expecting Bancho the Chef will keep things fresh in a similar way.
