Mike Myers became famous with films like Wayne’s World and Austin Powers. However, his movie ‘The Love Guru’ was a major flop, earning only $40 million worldwide, which led him to step away from starring in films and focus on voice work for the Shrek franchise. Interestingly, Myers has made several uncredited appearances in other movies since then, often going unnoticed by audiences.
Those Mike Myers cameos on full…
I have to admit, I was really surprised to see him pop up in Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Inglourious Basterds’ back in 2009! He played General Ed Fenech, and while they used some makeup, it was still pretty clear who he was – a lot of people actually thought it was British comedian David Mitchell, and honestly, I can see why! The scene he was in was key, because it’s where they bring Michael Fassbender’s character, Lieutenant Hicox, into the fold.
Nine years after his previous role, Myers appeared in the 2018 film ‘Terminal’ alongside Margot Robbie and Simon Pegg. While viewers immediately recognized him, the movie wasn’t successful and didn’t receive much attention. It’s unclear what drew Myers to the part, though collaborating with the rising star Robbie was likely a factor.
However, that same year, he went completely unrecognized in the Oscar-winning film Bohemian Rhapsody, where he played record company boss Ray Foster. With a wig, sunglasses, and makeup, viewers wouldn’t have known it was him (as seen in the main image above). He likely enjoyed the role because of his fondness for prosthetic makeup, which he’d previously used to play several characters in the Austin Powers movies.
Myers’ diverse roles in the 2022 mini-series ‘The Pentaverate’ – which he wrote, starred in, and executive produced – made sense given his history of over-the-top comedy. However, the show wasn’t renewed for a second season after its initial run.
He also appeared in David O. Russell’s film ‘Amsterdam’ that same year, alongside Margot Robbie and Myers. However, his role was a very brief cameo, and he was heavily disguised with prosthetics, so many viewers didn’t even realize it was him.
He recently appeared in the movie ‘Michael’ playing Walter Yetnikoff, the agent who helped get Michael Jackson’s ‘Beat It’ music video aired on MTV, which was groundbreaking at the time for featuring a Black artist. The role is somewhat unrecognizable due to heavy makeup and prosthetics.
After the disappointing performance of his 2008 film, The Love Guru, Mike Myers largely stepped away from leading roles in movies. He’s mostly appeared in brief, disguised cameos in recent years, though there’s ongoing speculation about a fourth Austin Powers film, which could bring him back to the forefront.
