Although we haven’t seen any actual gameplay footage yet, the announcement of Resident Evil Veronica at Summer Game Fest has already excited fans. It quickly surpassed one million wishlists in under a week, transforming it from a beloved older title into what looks like Capcom’s major game release for 2027 – unless they announce something else first.
The Resident Evil series has evolved a lot since the first Code: Veronica came out in 2000. Recent remakes have changed some established story details, and that’s not even considering what happened in Resident Evil: Requiem. However, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi assured Famitsu (as reported by IGN) that the new remake will take all of these changes into account.
We’re planning to rework the story in Resident Evil Veronica to make it clear that all the games are connected as one series. This will build on the changes we made in Resident Evil 2 Remake. However, Capcom’s main focus is honoring what players remember and love about the games while we rebuild them.
You don’t need to have played Code: Veronica to enjoy the remake, but the director thinks you’ll get even more out of it if you’re familiar with previous Resident Evil games. He suggests playing any older titles you haven’t tried yet, so consider that your challenge for the next few months!
The highly anticipated Resident Evil Veronica remake is scheduled for release in 2027 on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Although a specific date hasn’t been announced, some reports suggest it might launch in the first six months of the year. Yasuhiro Anpo, who directed Resident Evil 2 and 4 Remakes alongside associate director Kazunori Kadoi, is leading development. The game will be played from a third-person perspective like the original, but gameplay is expected to feel closer to that of the Resident Evil 2 remake.
