Do you remember the next Ghost Recon game? It was known internally as “Ovr” and reportedly had a very early test version last fall. The plan was to release it in 2026, and it was expected to be a grittier game with gameplay similar to Ready or Not. However, sources speaking with Tom Henderson at Insider Gaming suggest that development is facing difficulties.
An internal report suggests the military shooter failed to meet internal goals because of overly ambitious deadlines and ineffective planning. Project leaders also haven’t been receptive to feedback, despite Ubisoft emphasizing the game’s importance. While Ubisoft praised the game’s core foundation, an insider indicated that such positive messaging often signals significant problems within the development process.
Things are likely to change, particularly since the publisher apparently turned down other options. It’s unclear if this will lead to job losses, a fresh start for the project, or its complete end, but following recent changes at the studio, the situation doesn’t look promising.
While details are still emerging, Bruno Galet is expected to take on the role of senior producer. Jean-Baptiste Duval, VP of production, and Julien Sansalone, VP of the global creative office, will also be heavily involved, likely working more closely with the team to address recent challenges and get things back on track.
If development is delayed, Ubisoft’s game release plans could be impacted. Beyond Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in July and Rayman Legends Retold in October, Ubisoft doesn’t have many confirmed games scheduled for 2026, and their plans for 2027 are currently unknown.
