New PS5 Exclusive Will Leverage Underused DualSense Features to Truly Immerse Players

Nintendo is usually the first name people think of when it comes to innovative game controllers – thanks to the Wii and Nintendo’s continued use of motion controls on the Switch and upcoming Switch 2. While PlayStation and Xbox haven’t focused much on motion control, the PS5’s DualSense controller offers impressive features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that could significantly enhance gameplay. However, these features aren’t always used to their full potential, especially in games made by companies other than Sony.

A new PlayStation 5 exclusive game called Bancho the Chef promises to really showcase the DualSense controller’s features. First shown off at the June State of Play event, it’s also coming to PC. Recently, the developers at Mintrocket explained how this unique combination of adventure and cooking simulation will utilize the controller in impressive ways – more games, especially those involving activities like cooking or fishing, should take similar approaches! It’s easy to see why they chose that event to first reveal the game.

Many Games Sleep on the DualSense Controller’s Full Potential, But Not This One

It’s easy to forget just how much the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller can do. While many games don’t fully utilize features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, it’s always a pleasant surprise when they actually do. I was really impressed, for example, when cooking in Genshin Impact on PS5. Some first-party titles, such as Astro Bot, showcase the controller’s capabilities perfectly, almost serving as a tutorial. However, even six years after its release, most games still don’t take full advantage of everything the DualSense has to offer.

Okay, so I’m really excited about this new game, Bancho the Chef! The developers at Mintrocket just shared some details and it sounds incredible. They specifically chose the PS5 as their main console because they want to fully utilize the DualSense controller. Apparently, we’re going to feel like we’re actually cooking – think haptic feedback and adaptive triggers that mimic real techniques! If they nail it, this could be a seriously immersive cooking game, maybe even better than anything since Cooking Mama. I can’t wait to see how it all comes together.

We recently got a detailed look at how Bancho the Chef plays thanks to a new developer video from Mintrocket. Following a brief preview during the State of Play, this Dev Dive showcases both the cooking process and how players will gather ingredients. You can watch the full video below – it’s already cued up to the Bancho the Chef segment!

The game combines exciting adventures with the fun of cooking simulations. When you’re cooking, you’ll experience it all up close in first-person, learning different techniques. Bancho the Chef will use the PlayStation DualSense controller’s special features – like responsive triggers and vibrations – to make these actions feel realistic. The trailer highlights things like chopping ingredients, using a torch, and fishing, and these could be incredibly immersive with the right implementation of the controller’s technology.

Currently, Bancho the Chef is only available on PlayStation 5, but a Steam version is also planned. Beyond potentially releasing on the Switch 2 with Joy-Con support, this seems like a great way to enhance the cooking game and make players feel like they’re really in a kitchen. I’m excited to see how it develops.
