The popular manga series Kagurabachi, featured in Shonen Jump, is getting an anime adaptation in 2027. Created by Takeru Hokazono, the manga launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023 and quickly became a hit, going viral thanks to its unique art and story. It’s become incredibly popular, selling over 4 million copies, making it one of Shonen Jump’s most successful series even before the anime was announced.
In Japan, the manga currently has 11 volumes available, but English readers can only access the first seven. Because of the time it takes to license and translate each volume, English releases are slower. As fans anticipate the upcoming anime, a new design for the main character, Chihiro Rokuhira, has been revealed in a short, 20-second trailer. Voice actor Taihi Kimura, who previously played Fuji III in Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun, will be voicing Chihiro.
Does Kagurabachi‘s Anime Have a Release Date?
The new anime series is scheduled to launch in April 2027 as part of the spring season. We’ll find out the specific release date and where to watch it closer to the premiere. With several months still to go, expect more previews focusing on the main characters. An official trailer is also expected to be released in the coming months.
The anime is being made by Cypic, previously known as CygamesPictures. It used to be part of Cygames, but earlier this year all ownership moved to its parent company, CyberAgent. After that change, the studio became Cypic and then announced they were adapting Kagurabachi into an anime. Fans had heard rumors about this adaptation starting in 2024, so the announcement wasn’t unexpected.
What Is The Plot of Kagurabachi?

This story follows Chihiro Rokuhira as he seeks revenge for his father’s murder. After his father, a skilled swordsman, was killed by a powerful group of sorcerers, Chihiro inherits his last legendary sword. Three years later, he sets out on a dangerous journey to track down each member of the sorcerer group and recover the other stolen blades.
The manga finished its initial storyline in February 2026 and immediately began Part 2 with a new story arc. The first storyline was split into three arcs, the longest of which was “Sword Bearer Assassination.” The ending of this first part dramatically changed the direction of the story, bringing Chihiro closer to fulfilling his lifelong dream and becoming more like his father.
