Alanis Morissette Makes Rare Comment About Her 3 Kids

You oughta know Alanis Morissette loves being a mom.

During her Songwriters Hall of Fame induction, singer Alanis Morissette emphasized that her children – 14-year-old Ever, 9-year-old Onyx, and 6-year-old Winter, whom she shares with her husband, Mario ‘Souleye’ Treadway – are even more important to her than the honor itself.

She shared with TopMob News that her mother has always been her biggest inspiration, followed by her passion for writing. She said being recognized for her work felt especially meaningful and heartwarming, particularly at the June 11th ceremony in New York.

Although Alanis Morissette values her family above all else, she was deeply touched by the recognition she received for inspiring a new wave of songwriters.

She explained that many writers – women, men, and people of all gender identities – share a common trait. She noted she connects with many male writers on this level, suggesting it’s often those who are highly sensitive and empathetic who find common ground. These individuals tend to be quiet and introverted, which is a quality shared by a lot of writers.

She said the lyric that best proves she deserves to be in the Hall of Fame comes from her 1999 song, “These Are the Thoughts,” which was on the album Joining You.

Alanis Morissette shared a quote – a very dense and quickly spoken line – asking if we can move past traditions rooted in fear and negativity. She jokingly noted it packs a lot of meaning into very few words.

With her place in music history secure, Alanis Morissette is preparing a special performance for her upcoming Inglewood concert series, ‘Butterfly With a Machete,’ starting in November. The show will celebrate everything from throughout her career.

Looking back at the ’90s, the message seemed to be to stick to one path, which is unrealistic for anyone, really,” she said. “This show is… well, it’s a blend of trauma and comedy. I’m not even sure how to describe it properly.

She explained that she transforms life’s difficulties and experiences into art – specifically dance, movement, storytelling, and comedy – and that music is always central to her creative process.
