Eve Hewson reveals Steven Spielberg’s “sweet” response to whether he knows if aliens are real

Steven Spielberg has always been fascinated by extraterrestrial life, and his latest movie, Disclosure Day, revisits this long-held passion.

This new film, now playing in UK cinemas, revisits a theme Steven Spielberg first explored nearly 50 years ago with ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’: the possibility of contact with alien life. Spielberg has said he actually believes in the existence of alien life even more strongly now than he did when he made that earlier film.

He shared in the latest trailer, ‘Now, compared to when I created Close Encounters, I really believe there’s other intelligent life out there in the universe.’

This raises the question of whether the cast and crew discussed the possibility of life beyond Earth while filming. Eve Hewson, who admitted to researching alien theories herself, apparently asked Steven Spielberg directly how much he actually believed about aliens.

She explained in an exclusive interview with TopMob that the crew and she were all talking about him behind his back.

Later, as we became more comfortable with him, I asked directly, ‘Have you ever had any experiences with them? Do you believe they’re real?’

And Spielberg’s response?

He said something really kind, expressing hurt that people hadn’t come to visit him, especially considering all the publicity he’d generated for them.

“It’s so true,” added Hewson’s co-star Josh O’Connor. “Go and see Spielberg first!”

The film features performances by O’Connor, Hewson, Emily Blunt, Wyatt Russell, Colman Domingo, and Colin Firth. Our review gave it a three-star rating.

Disclosure Day follows a whistleblower who’s trying to expose a huge government cover-up. They’re in a desperate race against time to reveal the truth about aliens, an event that promises to change everything for humanity.

Disclosure Day is released in cinemas on Wednesday 10 June 2026.
