Homelander is the strongest superpowered individual in The Boys, both in the TV series and the original comics. He was specifically engineered to be the ultimate superhuman, and he generally dominated everyone around him (though his portrayal differs between the two versions). His incredible power kept him in charge of The Seven and Vought International, and the Boys had to resort to underhanded tactics – and plenty of Compound V – just to have a chance against him. It’s hard to say exactly how he compares to heroes like Superman, who clearly inspired his creation, but it’s safe to say that even a light touch from Homelander would be fatal to most people if he intended it to be.
Despite being ordinary people, many heroes in the Marvel and DC universes have successfully defeated incredibly powerful villains. They’re accustomed to facing tough opponents like Homelander, and several of them are capable of winning – though some would have an easier time than others. Here are seven powerless superheroes who could defeat him.
7) War Machine

It’s a matter of definition, but Marvel’s armored heroes like Iron Man and War Machine rely on their technology, not inherent superpowers, which means they deserve to be considered in these kinds of matchups. James Rhodes, as War Machine, is a highly trained soldier who completely masters his armor’s weaponry. While standard bullets and missiles likely wouldn’t affect Homelander, the repulsor blasts certainly would. Combining that with the armor’s strength and durability – even though Homelander isn’t as powerful as some of Marvel or DC’s top-tier heroes – Rhodes could defeat him with moderate effort.
6) Ironheart

Ironheart arrived in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025, but hasn’t been a major character in the comics recently. Despite this, she’s more than capable of defeating Homelander. Riri Williams is incredibly intelligent – she built her own Ironheart suit, so creating a weapon to harm Homelander would be within her abilities. Her biggest weakness is a lack of experience, but she’s resourceful enough to learn during the fight and ultimately find a way to win.
5) Judge Dredd

Judge Dredd is the ultimate law enforcer, and he’d certainly make that clear to Homelander. Having dealt with nearly every kind of threat imaginable in Mega-City One, Dredd is equipped with futuristic weaponry and is incredibly resilient. He’s accustomed to facing enemies determined to obliterate him and his values. Plus, his flying motorcycle would give him a significant aerial advantage. It would be a fierce battle, but Dredd wouldn’t back down.
4) Nightwing

Look, I get why people would doubt Nightwing against someone like Homelander. But let me tell you, Dick Grayson is a seriously skilled fighter. He’s been taking down superpowered villains for years! I mean, his regular opponent in Bludhaven, Blockbuster, is basically super strong and can’t be hurt, and Nightwing handles him constantly. He knows how to fight guys at that level – and honestly, I don’t even think Homelander is as powerful as some of the really top-tier heroes, especially the way they portray him in the show. Nightwing would definitely give him a run for his money, and I think he’d win, pretty quickly.
3) Iron Man

Tony Stark is considered one of the smartest people in comic books, and his Iron Man suit has made him an iconic hero. However, many believe he could defeat Homelander even without the armor. As an Avenger, Stark consistently overcomes incredibly powerful enemies – he’s built suits capable of battling threats like Thanos, the Hulk, beings with the Phoenix Force, and even Celestials. Given just a little information about Homelander’s abilities, he’d quickly develop a winning strategy.
2) Mister Terrific

Mister Terrific is incredibly intelligent – the third smartest person on his planet. From the start of his career, he’s been a top-tier superhero known for always finding a way to win against any opponent. While Homelander is powerful, Mister Terrific sees him as relatively simple-minded and unprepared for someone with his strategic abilities. With his T-Spheres, Mister Terrific could easily analyze Homelander’s weaknesses and develop a winning strategy; that’s simply what he excels at – overcoming impossible odds.
1) Batman

Batman is incredibly successful, consistently overcoming his opponents. It’s strange that he often struggles against villains like the Joker, who isn’t physically imposing, yet easily defeats enemies with superpowers – even those as powerful as Superman. He’s faced and won against many opponents similar to Homelander, and while he might sometimes need specialized armor to help, he always finds a way to win, especially against someone as reckless as Homelander, whom he’d likely defeat very quickly.
