X-Men ‘97 Just Revealed Wolverine’s Most Controversial Redesign for Season 2 – Watch the New Trailer

A new trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2 has been released, showcasing the characters who will appear, including a redesigned Wolverine that’s sparking debate. The trailer features all the core X-Men – Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Forge, Bishop, Morph, Rogue, and Jubilee – as well as other favorites like Sunspot, Archangel, Psylocke, Cable, Siryn, Strong Guy, Havok, Multiple Man, Wolfsbane, Emma Frost, and Polaris. Magneto also makes an appearance. The trailer concludes with a reveal of the season’s main villain, Apocalypse, and confirms the premiere date on Disney+ as July 1st. One particular clip, however, left viewers with a lot of unanswered questions.

The trailer for X-Men ’97 showed Wolverine with his Feral design, a look that’s proven quite divisive among Marvel Comics fans.

Wolverine Will Go Feral in X-Men ’97 Season 2

Wow, the first season of X-Men ’97 really left me on the edge of my seat! Seeing the X-Men split up across time, with the “Age of Apocalypse” hanging over everything, was intense. And the trailer… Logan! Seeing Wolverine looking so feral and animalistic was a shock. As a longtime comic fan, I know this look comes from a really painful part of his history. Basically, Magneto ripped the Adamantium off his bones, which messed with his healing and, after a failed attempt to fix it, turned him into this primal, raging version of himself. It was a really dark time for him, and honestly, the look wasn’t always a favorite among fans, but it definitely shows how much he’s been through!

The second season of the show will follow the X-Men’s journey to return home, amidst growing prejudice against mutants in the 1990s and the arrival of new enemies. The latest trailer reveals a surprising alliance: Magneto is now fighting alongside the X-Men, even speaking about unity with Professor X and his team. However, this partnership is a deception. Magneto and his followers, including Rogue, secretly plan to destroy the Prime Sentinels—hybrids of humans and Sentinels—a plan the X-Men are determined to stop. In a shocking scene mirroring the comics, Magneto also removes Wolverine’s Adamantium skeleton.

The trailer features Wolverine with his bone claws, hinting at his more primal, feral appearance. Interestingly, this version of Feral Wolverine looks much improved compared to how it was depicted in the original comics. This development could lead to a storyline mirroring the comics where Apocalypse offers to restore Wolverine’s adamantium skeleton if he joins him as one of his Horsemen – specifically, the Horseman of Death. There’s also speculation that Gambit might be brought back as another Horseman, though they both previously held the role of Death in the comics, suggesting a change will be necessary. Overall, the story seems to be following a well-known path from the source material. Season two of X-Men ’97 will debut on Disney+ with nine episodes starting July 1st.
