Alec Baldwin‘s goal for his kids isn’t impossible.
Alec Baldwin, known for his role in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, shared an important lesson he and his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, are teaching their children: Carmen, 12, Rafael, 10, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 8, Eduardo and Maria Lucia, 5, and Ilaria, 3.
Alec recently shared with TopMob News that he hopes his children maintain a sense of optimism, noting he feels the current climate is more discouraging than ever before. He made these comments at the premiere of the documentary Gaslit on June 12th.
The activist, who shares a 30-year-old daughter named Ireland with his ex-wife Kim Basinger, went on to say, “We need to keep striving to show our kids the importance of perseverance. It’s crucial to maintain hope and continue working to gain control – and the significant power that comes with it – from those who would misuse it.”
Alec, 68, lightened the mood by joking that he used to have different hopes for his children’s achievements.
He explained that for a time, all he wished for was someone to help him with his wheelchair. He jokingly told people, ‘I want you all to stay in shape and get strong because you’ll be pushing me around in this chair before you know it!’
Alec has mentioned that becoming a father later in life isn’t without its difficulties. He was in his mid-50s when he and Hilaria, now 42, had their first child together back in 2013.
Alec Baldwin joked on his podcast, The Baldwins, that by the time his children are ready for college, he’ll be quite elderly. “They’re going to grow up and go to college, and I’ll be 80 years old,” he said in a 2025 episode.
“I try not to think about that,” he admitted. “What I need is more time with my kids, you know?”

Alec and Hilaria Baldwin, who got married in 2012, have a 26-year age difference, but they laugh about it.
“It seems absurd—a 27-year-old yoga teacher married to a much older, wealthy celebrity,” Hilaria told the Daily Mail in an interview on May 29. “It’s almost like something you’d see in a silly Saturday Night Live skit.”
Things ended up working well, though we’re always teasing each other as a family,” she said. “I think some people assumed Alec wanted someone he could control, but honestly, we relate to each other as equals.”
For a look back at Alec and Hilaria’s long-lasting romance, read on.

Alec Baldwin shared with the New York Times that he met Hilaria Thomas (now his wife) at Pure Food and Wine in New York City in February 2011. He gave her his phone number, and after a bit of back-and-forth calling, they scheduled a dinner date.
That August they enjoyed their first US Open together, one of Alec’s favorite events.

I swear, it was destiny! I always knew Alec was meant to be with Hilaria. I remember seeing photos from the Elton John AIDS Foundation benefit back in October 2011 – that’s where he saw her, you could just tell! And then, only a month later, they were already living together! It happened so fast, but it was perfect. I knew from the start they were meant to be!

Alec Baldwin and Hilaria first connected at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012. He explained that after his divorce, he dated several people while figuring out what he wanted in life. Ultimately, he realized he wasn’t prepared to start a serious relationship or pursue new opportunities until he met Hilaria.

In April 2012, Alec’s rep confirmed to TopMob News that he and Hilaria were engaged.

Hilaria and Ireland Baldwin often share their close friendship on Twitter. Ireland playfully tweeted that she’d be a flower girl at a wedding, but she actually served as a bridesmaid.

The wedding took place on June 30, 2012, at the beautiful Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in Manhattan, surrounded by loved ones. The bride looked stunning in an Amsale silk magnolia trumpet gown, while the groom was handsome in a Tom Ford tuxedo.

The couple now has seven children: Carmen Gabriela (born August 23, 2013), Rafael Thomas (June 17, 2015), Leonardo Ángel Charles (September 12, 2016), Romeo Alejandro David (May 17, 2018), Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas (September 8, 2020), María Lucía Victoria (born February 25, 2021, via surrogate), and Ilaria Catalina Irena (September 22, 2022).
The whole family will be starring on TLC’s The Baldwins, premiering Feb. 23, 2025.
