Masters of the Universe’s Post-Credits Scene Officially Revealed a Classic Location (& Skeletor’s Perfect Replacement)

Despite being projected as one of the biggest box office flops of 2026, Masters of the Universe isn’t a bad movie. In fact, director Travis Knight delivered a film that fans of the original cartoon have been hoping for over four decades. The movie has earned $84 million globally, but that’s less than its $200 million production cost. The ending hints at a sequel, and while Amazon is promoting the film, it’s currently unclear if we’ll actually get one. (Please be aware that this article contains spoilers.)

Although Jared Leto’s villain was defeated by Prince Adam, the post-credits scene hinted at Skeletor’s possible return. However, the mid-credits scene revealing She-Ra was the more significant surprise. It showed Princess Adora, long thought lost, standing on a cliff with the Sword of Protection, seemingly ready to embrace her fate. Director Travis Knight has now confirmed the location as the Fright Zone, a place many dedicated Masters of the Universe fans likely recognized. He told CinemaBlend, “You couldn’t tell? That’s the Fright Zone behind her. For the keen-eyed fan.”

Masters of the Universe 2 & She-Ra’s Return are Not Certain

Given the box office results of Masters of the Universe, some might assume director Knight was too optimistic about making a sequel. However, he explains the film was always designed to work perfectly well even if a follow-up never materialized. He avoids discussing She-Ra’s potential role, but emphasizes his approach to filmmaking: he treats each movie as a single, standalone project. This film tells a complete story with a satisfying ending, while also hinting at a larger world beyond what’s shown on screen.

Overall, the movie delivers on its core story – Adam finding his place in Eternia is genuinely satisfying. And that little tease with Skeletor? It felt like a fun wink to the original 1987 film, remembering Frank Langella’s iconic promise to return. Sadly, that promise never materialized then, and Leto’s laugh at the end feels like a similar, knowing nod to that 80s classic. The setup for She-Ra is a bit more intriguing, though. It feels like they’ve planted the seeds for a bigger story, and the introduction of the Fright Zone cleverly points towards Hordak as a potential villain – he’s the one who rebuilt his army on Etheria and actually kidnapped Adora as a child! You get a glimpse of all this in the post-credits scene of Masters of the Universe, and while the director says it wasn’t meant to set up a sequel, it’s just another promising hint that, sadly, didn’t lead anywhere.

In a recent CinemaBlend interview, Knight reiterated his belief in She-Ra’s potential and expressed a strong desire to include her in future projects. He stated that if given the opportunity, She-Ra would be central to expanding the Masters of the Universe story, given her importance as Adam’s twin sister, Adora, and the passion many have for the character. While the movie’s success on Prime Video could open doors for more stories, securing another large $200 million budget is challenging considering concerns about its box office performance – projections suggest it might only reach half that amount.
