Hello – it’s been a while since I’ve written one of these.
Just a quick heads-up about Push Square – some of you may have already seen the changes. A few people brought it up in the forums, so I wanted to let everyone know.
Recently, we all sat around a big table with Rob’s Ringtons biscuits (they’re a northern thing, apparently) and made the decision to transition from a third-person writing style to a first-person writing style. This applies to all articles.
What does this actually look like? Simply put, it means I’ll be sharing my personal opinions more directly. So when I call K-pop Idol Stories a dream game, you’ll know that’s my own feeling about it. (Many of you already figured me out in the comments, though!)
How we get information is different now. Instead of relying on news organizations, people are more likely to follow individual creators and experts. Plus, tools like Gemini are changing how we search for things. Because of these shifts, it’s crucial that we change how we approach information and communication.
Using a detached, authoritative voice worked well at first, but now I believe it’s more impactful to share our personal perspectives and experiences in our writing.
Push Square has always focused on keeping you informed about the latest news, and we’ll continue to do that. However, we also want to start explaining the reasons behind the news more often. Sharing our perspective as individuals will help us do that.
We’ve consistently received positive feedback on articles that showcase real-life experiences with games. For instance, we gave readers an exclusive look at the development studio behind Crimson Desert and our team reviewed TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge together.
What sets us apart is our genuine, real-world experience – something AI can’t reproduce. We’ve spent decades building PlayStation, and that expertise is what makes us unique.
But you are also a part of what sets the website apart.
I’ve always believed that comments and articles go hand-in-hand – your thoughts and discussions are just as important as the writing itself, and I didn’t want to create a space where they felt separate.
Speaking directly to you, as if we’re having a real conversation, helps us connect and have more genuine, human interactions.
Now that you’ve had a chance to adjust, I’m curious to hear your thoughts. How are you feeling about the changes? Do you think they’re a positive step?
I envision Push Square becoming the central online community for PlayStation fans – a place for insightful, up-to-date, and compelling content that truly understands what makes being a PS5 player special.
Your PlayStation Life, if you like.
