Anya Taylor-Joy is joining the cast of the new Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum, and will play a significant character in the fantasy movie.
Okay, so Anya Taylor-Joy, who absolutely blew me away in The Queen’s Gambit, is joining the cast as Seren, a Silvan Elf. From what I’m hearing, she’s not just any elf, though. She’s a key figure in Thranduil’s inner circle – a trusted advisor and, apparently, a seriously dangerous operative. Sounds like she’s going to be a fascinating character, and I’m already intrigued to see Taylor-Joy tackle this role.
Andy Serkis will direct the new film, and he’ll also be back playing Gollum using performance capture, just like in the original movies. Joining him are familiar actors Ian McKellen returning as Gandalf and Elijah Wood as Frodo.
Jamie Dornan will be the next Aragorn, taking over the role from Viggo Mortensen. Additionally, Leo Woodall and Kate Winslet are joining the cast as new characters named Harvald and Marigol.

The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 17, 2027. The story will take place between the events of The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring.
The film tells a brand new story, one that Andy Serkis has hinted will beautifully combine fresh narrative with familiar, beloved elements from the world of Middle-earth.

This isn’t the only Lord of the Rings movie currently being made. Earlier this year, another project was announced – a film co-written by Stephen Colbert, currently known as The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past.
I’m really excited about this new movie! It’s going to draw inspiration from a key part of The Fellowship of the Ring – specifically chapter eight – but the cool thing is, it takes place after everything we already saw in the original Lord of the Rings films. It’s not a retelling, but something completely new building on that world.
Anya Taylor-Joy is starring in the upcoming Apple TV+ show, Lucky, and will have a significant part in Dune: Part Three, which releases later this year. She previously appeared briefly in Dune: Part Two in 2024.
