I’ve been following this anime for years, and it’s hard to believe that after eight seasons, the Rascal Does Not Dream series is wrapping up! Crunchyroll has become a go-to for great romance anime, but this one always felt special. It really stood out by blending romance with sci-fi, alternate realities, and characters who aren’t always what they seem – Hajime Kamoshida’s creation has been incredibly popular, and they just released a new trailer for the final movie.
The popular anime series Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai first aired in 2018 and has grown with new seasons, specials, and movies ever since. Now, the story is concluding with a final movie releasing in Japan this October. You can watch the latest trailer for Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend below to get a glimpse of the challenges facing the show’s main characters.
Rascal Does Not Dream Finale Movie Releases New Trailer
I’m really excited about the new Rascal Does Not Dream movie, titled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend, which comes out in Japan on October 16th. Sadly, there’s no news yet about when – or if – it will be available outside of Japan. This film is based on the last book in Hajime Kamoshida’s light novel series and seems to be wrapping up the entire anime story. If you remember Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, you might recall hints of this plotline, especially surrounding Mai Sakurajima’s mysterious disappearance.
Soichi Masui is back to direct the new anime film, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend, produced by CloverWorks and Aniplex. The script is written by Masahiro Yokotani, with character design by Satomi Tamura and music by fox capture plan. The film will feature the original voice actors, continuing the story and focusing on Sakuta Azusagawa (voiced by Kaito Ishikawa) and Mai Sakurajima (voiced by Asami Seto) as they deal with the ongoing effects of Puberty Syndrome.
How Is Rascal Does Not Dream Going to End?

The latest film, Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus, begins adapting a story arc from the original novels, focusing on young adults still dealing with Puberty Syndrome even after leaving high school. The film introduces a new, bigger mystery when Sakuta starts receiving warnings that Mai is in danger in another timeline. The trailer confirms this threat is very real.
Similar to the first season, where Mai felt unseen and ignored, she now seems to have completely vanished – it’s as if Sakuta is the only one who remembers her. With a lot of intricate details to keep track of, now’s a good time to catch up on the latest seasons and specials, all available to stream on Crunchyroll.
