We’re Officially 2 Years Away From A $1.8 Billion Superhero Franchise’s Return

I’ve been a huge fan of superhero movies for years – they’re practically Hollywood tradition! But honestly, it feels like they really exploded in popularity this century. We’ve gotten so many amazing films, from the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe to all the different Spider-Man takes. And who could forget Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy? Plus, there were the X-Men movies and countless versions of DC heroes too. It’s been a fantastic time to be a superhero movie fan!

Beyond Marvel and DC, several other comic books have been adapted into movies. Films like The Spirit, Hellboy, and The Green Hornet aren’t connected to those two major universes. Additionally, directors and actors have explored original superhero stories – James Gunn directed Super and produced Brightburn, while Will Smith starred in Hancock, Chris Evans in Push, and Michael B. Jordan in Chronicle.

While many superhero films are made with real actors, animation continues to be a strong way to tell these stories. Both Marvel and DC have had great success with animated movies, and Hollywood has also created original animated superhero franchises like Megamind. Now, another original animated superhero series is preparing for a comeback.

Get ready for more superhero action! Disney and Pixar have announced that Incredibles 3 will hit theaters on June 16, 2028. The popular franchise started in 2004 and made a successful return in 2018, and now the Incredibles family is gearing up for a brand new adventure.

Disney first announced plans for a new Incredibles movie in 2024 at D23, but the official release date of 2028 wasn’t confirmed until 2026. With two years remaining until Incredibles 3 comes out, Disney and Pixar have plenty of time to share more details about the story, which hasn’t been revealed yet.

We know the whole Parr family—Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack—will be back for the next movie. Frozone and Edna Mode will probably make an appearance too, and we might see other heroes who showed up at the end of Incredibles 2.
