Studio Ghibli Confirms Its First-Ever Store Opening in The US

Studio Ghibli is a world-renowned animation studio celebrated for its beloved, classic films. Founded in 1985, the studio has consistently created movies known for beautiful artwork, compelling stories, and deeply moving themes. Ghibli’s signature style – detailed, hand-drawn animation with vibrant landscapes and expressive characters – has made its films timeless favorites. Even between new movie releases, Studio Ghibli keeps fans engaged with merchandise, exhibitions, and other exciting projects.

Studio Ghibli has announced a special exhibition called “Zen and Ghibli” coming this year. Inspired by a book featuring conversations between Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki and a Zen Buddhist monk, the exhibit will present Ghibli’s films in a peaceful, Zen-inspired setting. It will be held exclusively in Kyoto this October, with tickets going on sale on July 18, 2026. Though currently designed for fans in Japan, the exhibition promises a fresh perspective on the studio’s most popular movies. Ghibli has created a dedicated website to share more details and updates about the event.

Studio Ghibli Has Yet to Share Updates on The Upcoming Film

I was surprised to hear that Hayao Miyazaki, after saying he’d retire following The Boy and the Heron in 2023, decided to start working on another film! It’s been about three years now, and we haven’t gotten many details, but from what I understand, he’s still hard at work despite being older. Hopefully, we’ll get some news about the new project soon.

I’m so excited about everything happening with Studio Ghibli! I recently learned from Toshio Suzuki and Goro Miyazaki that even the legendary Hayao Miyazaki has days where his motivation dips when he’s not feeling his best, but thankfully he usually bounces back while working. And on top of eagerly awaiting news about a new movie, he’s put together this incredible Panorama Box filled with brand-new illustrations from all his classic films! It sounds absolutely gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see it on display at the Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse starting July 8th, 2026.
